this is a very good thread of both reasons it's NOT unrealistic, but also reasons why it doesn't ultimately matter!! star trek isn't actually about the future. it's about us, now; the future is just a different way to talk about our CURRENT hopes, goals, ideas, hurts, regrets, shames, dreams
I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

There are so many fucked up things with the current administration that it's hard to focus on one but this recent move is basically a death sentence for the planet. I've been involved with more boots on the ground actions over the years than I can count and this really bums me out.
