Friends, can you help me boost this thread? It's an annual thread that I used to do on Twitter that people found helpful, but it's getting shared less here — like, 1000x less. Selfishly: This thread is part of how I end up with six excellent Book Project mentees each year!
If you're working on a book and plan to finish a significant draft in the next few years, you should be aware of some programs that offer support! First up, the Book Project, where I'm a mentor. In the past six years, mentees have signed 25 book deals. (1/x)

"President Trump is cultivating warm relationships with G.O.P. lawmakers — and using the implicit threat of ruining them if they stray — to keep them in line."

Interesting. My idea of a "warm relationship" is so different from this.

NEWS: Last night, the Department of Homeland Security detained a Palestinian who helped lead the Columbia encampment.

Agents told him his visa was revoked. He said he had a green card. They were confused—then said that was revoked too.

His attorney demanded a warrant. Agents hung up instead.

The oarfish, a striking deep-sea creature nicknamed the “doomsday fish,” has eluded researchers over the decades. For scientists in California, where three oarfish have washed up in recent months, it’s an exciting find. nyti.ms/3CDRqTz

At Al-Shifa hospital Gaza:

We currently have around 600 inpatients who need medical care.

We have around 37 to 40 premature babies.

We have around 17 other patients in the ICU.

At the time of writing, our staff are witnessing people being shot at as they attempt to flee the Al-Shifa hospital.

MSF urgently reiterates its calls to stop the attacks against hospitals, for an immediate ceasefire and for the protection of medical facilities, medical staff and patients.

Wow wow wow. It should not have taken this kind of devastation but wow.
Half a million people in London right now. Jewish activists in New York last night. Polls in both countries overwhelmingly support a ceasefire in Gaza. Cannot imagine this level of support even five years ago. Whatever happens, the Palestinians are no longer alone.
