The lesson I take is that we're all embedded in moments of history, with choices to make. The right choice doesn't feel good in the moment. It would've killed his buzz to turn around and leave, and I felt I sold out an old friend to report him. But it doesn't change what's right. I'd do it again.

However, my old friend, like others that day, still had a choice. And he chose to participate in one of the largest crimes against American democracy. The implications of that choice are a lot bigger than him, and he needed to be held accountable. It's a travesty that Trump pardoned him and others.
