The column is about "Dave's" brand cigarettes, which had a made-up backstory about being hand-crafted by some made-up guy named Dave. Read this shit, this guy was spitting fire

One of my big highlights of 2025 was reading* the Murderbot Diaries. I was hoping I'd get the last of the released books from the library before the end of the year, and guess what just appeared from my holds!

(*well, listening to; I did the Kevin R. Free audiobooks and had a blast)

I just feel like some of y’all need to see my mom’s Star Trek tree. Many of these ornaments have been collected over decades, but the tree skirt she just made this year.

I don't normally talk about things like the Animal Farm trailer because of the way anything spreads when you give it engagement (I'm not reposting for that reason), but it's a good time to tell everyone to not give Angel Studios money.

This is the Sound of Freedom people, if it sounds familiar.

I saw this and nodded and moved along with my day.

And then Sara's child told me how much they enjoyed all the posts (I saw several of them) and revealed that Sara sent them something like 65 messages. I'm impressed, honestly.
i spent a full forty-five minutes this morning spamming my child with pictures related to their Special Interest over text message

One day, I'll stop being surprised that my favorite YouTubers (that aren't elder millennials) started off as Minecraft YouTubers. But that day isn't today.
wait this is actually really fun, I've been making video essays for half the time my channel has been up (before that, I was making Minecraft videos of course)

I'm sure I have a serious answer, but my funny answer is Death's Hand by @smreine.itch.io because there's a character in there based on me.
omg. Kat Abughazaleh just posted that if she's elected, she'll swear in on a copy of Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower.

If you were elected to public office (never mind whether you'd ever actually run), what book would you swear in on?

Hey, Letterboxd! Love your stuff. I would repost it more if it had alt text on it, like my image does.

Everyone says Return of the King has too many endings. I have zero problem with them. The only part of the series I regularly skip is the Gollum opener of Return of the King.

I've long had an interest in the ways conservative politics/fundamentalist Christianity intersect and shape each other in the US (I became politically aware during Bush II, so it's been relevant most of my life), and a lot of good modern resources on this have connections to fundie snark subreddits.
It’s bonkers how much snark subreddits have evolved to play a role in media, culture, and even national politics. And I would bet most people are blissfully unaware of their existence

Whether or not you're doing Adaptation Book Club, have you watched/rewatched the first Wicked in the last couple weeks? Do you want to talk about it? The discussion post is up now! www.patreon.com/posts/adapta...

I can tell we're getting into Peak YouTube Season because Defunctland posted a four-hour video a couple days ago and I see a two-hour FD Signifier essay on Nebula (not the Tyler Perry video, though).

Society is a construct. You can just ask someone to do a ska cover of Faith of the Heart and they'll say "$300 please" and you give it to them and then you have it.

Everyone, give

your money. They deserve it.

I think this literally every time I listen to For Good.
Of course I enjoyed Wicked Part 2 but "I ask forgiveness for the things I've done you blame me for" may be the worst apology I've ever heard

A place where my narrative tastes differs from a lot of other people's is that I largely need the execution of an idea to be as good or better than the idea itself. But the idea also needs to be coherent.

I won't name any names, but this is why I've struggled with a lot of films this year.
