Democrats who vote to fund secret police and concentration camps will not, down the road, be seen as "one of the good ones." Trust me on this.

OK, rant incoming.
This morning over coffee, I'm watching a replay of the Sweden/Finland #Olympics #hockey game on #peacock . These are two of the top teams in the world, packed with superstar NHL talent, and the game is unexpectedly important this early in the tournament. 1/x

Super Bowl Advertisers Spent A Lot Of Money Promoting Something Nobody Wants
The AI industry's efforts to excite, engage and reassure ordinary consumers about their products during the Big Game were mostly a fumble.

Ironic that the potato chip commercial kicked the ass of the Tyson “eat healthy” commercial
Those commercials were mostly trash too

Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the Taínos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous

"The sexual politics of the nameless castle in Salò (or Epstein Island) become the actual politics of society once those people manage to seize the machinery of the state." Some disturbing parallels between life and one of the most shocking films ever made. www.forbes.com/sites/robsal...

It’s about showing people who’s boss. Since they are utterly incapable of earning respect, it is the only actual thing MAGA wants, and it’s the one thing democratic politics can’t offer them.
"They came in here like an occupying army. That’s what it feels like and that’s how they’re conducting themselves. No one in Minneapolis believes for a second the pretense that this is about fraud or immigration enforcement or whatever. It’s absurd." — @whstancil.bsky.social

MAGA clowns, realizing that taking over elite, legitimate institutions does not make them either elite or legitimate, have decided to destroy them. We have met the barbarians and they are us.

Never mind the jobs you had, tell me five classes you took at university.
Politics of International Relations (Brzezinski)
Civil War & Reconstruction (Foner)
Intro to World Cinema (Sarris)
Philosophy of Art (Danto)
Asian Humanities & Lit (de Bary)

After that, nothing intellectually intimidated me.
Never mind the jobs you had, tell me five classes you took in college

Sage, the Way, and Zen
Shakespeare
Religion and Modern Secularism
Creative Fiction Writing
International Political Economy

Pleasantly surprised how many of these classes proved useful later in life.

Republican officeholders who think this is going to work out well for them should read some history about what happens to pre-revolutionary factions once the violence starts. Or, they should read the room. We're just about past the last exit.

In the same way we've renamed the Department of Defense to the Department of War, maybe rename the Department of Justice to the Department of Persecution? At least we'd have truth in advertising.

The bigger issue is that every democracy in the world is one election away from their own Trump, albeit one not as senile and sloppy. A lot of people hate the liberal order so much they'll throw away freedom, security and material progress to see it dead.
