And why is it ‘the system’ or framework at fault when it’s the funding of it and the people operating it that have ruined it? These are harder things to deal with, so easier to ignore 3/3

Children’s support is not seen as a priority—just look at the CAMHS initiatives that went nowhere, and the rampant unlawfulness of LAs—why is the government not outraged about that? These reports should make clear they’re not blaming families (unless they are?) as it’s always the impression left 2/

Perhaps they’re NEET… because they’re disabled and unable to work & there’s too little help. Stats tell one part of a story, but it’s no surprise when cuts to educational and CAMHS support in the last decade have increased needs, as did the pandemic. Social media means more people know about DLA. 1/

And here's perhaps the most eye-popping/worrying of all: of 15-year-olds who received both child disability living allowance (CDLA) and an EHCP (high-level special educational needs support) in 2014, *half* were not in education, employment or training (NEET) at age 22.

There are some eye-popping stats in this new report from my IFS colleagues.

Here's just one: 10% of teenagers now receive child disability living allowance (CDLA), up from 5% a decade ago. Just a remarkable change.
