To think that the #Quakes74 lost the guy at the top of this graphic due to a clerical error...
Facundo Torres was 33rd overall in Intentional xA per 96 Minutes at the winger position between 2022 and 2024 in MLS. 😬

He's the exact opposite of what Austin needs.

This is the kind of gamble you make with a DP contract, best German signing since Florian Jungwirth. #Quakes74
🚨🇩🇪 BLOCKBUSTER MLS MOVE LOADING…

San Jose Earthquakes are closing in on a shock signing of Timo Werner, per ESPN sources. The former Germany star would headline a new-look Quakes attack ⚡️

If completed, this could be one of the biggest signings in SJ history 🌎

Utter malpractice by the #Quakes74 to lose Cristian Espinoza.

Two phrase that somehow go together when discussing the Quakes.

Given that San Jose is only 280 miles from the most southern peak of the Cascades, perhaps the #Quakes74 will be invited to join the Cascadia Cup competition when MLS realigns in 2027!

The headline made me snicker, but, yeah, the Bay Area won't be hosting any of the big teams this time around. Let's see how dynamic pricing works for this slate of games.

FIFA totally screwed the Bay Area with its World Cup schedule
One of the tournament's biggest draws goes to Kansas City instead.

Just got the word that I'll be on site covering the World Cup draw at the Kennedy Center on Friday for @siriusxmfc.bsky.social. I have absolutely no idea what to expect. Stay tuned!

Still feel honored that Henry Taube was on my dissertation committee. Amazing scientist and person; I couldn't have been more fortunate.

San Jose Earthquakes 2025 MLS regular season schedule has been released. Two home games to the start the season, then a first road game at the Philadelphia Union. Sweater weather for all three! #Quakes74

Very insightful from Jeff, the shot to the @wesburdine.bsky.social chaser linked within.
NEW: MLS will become a summer-to-spring circuit beginning in 2027. It's the latest change as it aims to regularly "double" its fanbase...although the latest switch risks polarizing the league's longtime diehard supporters.

Jamon delivers again! One of my favorite weekly features, the Friday Stat Dump, even when it arrives on Saturday. 😉
Friday Stat Dump on Saturday: MLS leaders of various pass types.

(New: I've enhanced my chart generation with players!)

I put no stock in pass completion % which includes passes with no pressure. So let's look at chance-creating pass types.

First, the top 25(+ ties) with throughballs!

It's Preston Judd's time to shine.
🇻🇪 Sources: Josef Martinez is departing the San Jose Earthquakes.

Mutual decision, we're told. SJ will decline option and he hits free agency. Was team's leading scorer.

Martinez always interested in Atlanta reunion. TBD.

Just finished an abbreviated end of season press conference with Bruce Arena. After almost a year with the #Quakes74, and seeing how MLS is evolving in recent seasons, he had this assessment of the organization: "We have to overachieve here to be successful."

It's sad that The Town FC just last night hosted the first home playoff match at PayPal Park since the stadium's opening ten years (11 seasons) ago.

Bruce Arena talked up the team’s progress, but also said there “at least 6 games” where they dropped points that they shouldn’t have. Said they weren’t consistent enough. He also had this gem. “The salary cap is always challenging…I’m going to call into Inter Miami and see how they do it.” #Quakes74
