The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here.

But, while we can, say it anyway.
I have to admire the confidence, good humour, resilience and, yes, baking skills of these youngsters. Hope for the future.

The bar for best history book read in 2026 has been set high. Very high. A fabulous telling of the rivalry and clashes that marked the lives of Richard II and Henry IV. Fascinating account of events previously only familiar to me via Shakespeare. Read and relish.

I will not be responsible for my language or actions if I meet one more person for whom there is nothing more important than discovering the identity of the ‘Secret Traitor.’
Get a grip.

A fascinating book, one that will stay with me. Not just the history of a person or a particular place at a particular time; but an exploration of what we can and can not know about the past. And of the qualities needed for survival and achievement. Hugely recommended.

The death of Philip Larkin 40 years ago today devastated his friends, colleagues and loved ones. The Philip Larkin Society, founded ten years later, continues to provide a forum for the discussion and celebration of his work and has members from all around the world.

The seventeenth century is where the REALLY big stuff happens.

I don’t know what’s in this week’s Budget. And I know that I don’t know. And I wish that all the other people who don’t know would admit they don’t know.
Time for a lie-down.

NEW There's no overstating how significant the Nathan Gill case is. On Friday, the close associate of Nigel Farage was jailed for over 10 years for taking bribes ultimately from a friend of Putin. It's a complex, detail-heavy story that raises questions about Farage’s claim Gill was ‘one bad apple’🧵

For what it’s worth …
We have very high expectations of the BBC, one such being that they will tell the truth.
We have very low expectations of Donald Trump, one such being that he will lie.
The BBC occasionally disappoints our expectations. Donald Trump never does.

If you can, get vaccinated! I can’t understand why so many of my over-65 cohort haven’t done so yet. Come on guys - get those sleeves rolled up.
Definitely worth paying for a flu jab this year, about £15 at pharmacies!
