How’s your day going?

Mine is at “The theme song for The Garry Shandling Show earworm”.

I’m not sure how it’s come to this.

I often wonder if I need to create a recurring time on my calendar dedicated to shitposting. I then wonder if I should make sure it's still publicly viewable so the whole company knows what's what.

This turned out to be a really fun episode. When we talk about someone like Adele, it can be challenging to do much other than listen in awe to her voice. It turns out Adele-as-songwriter is an interesting discussion. As is finding a band that delivers a strong cover of an uncoverable song.
It’s hard to find a song - or singer - who nails it better than this, which makes a cover an impossible task. We found a band that. Someone Like You by Adele, cover: Water From Your Eyes. Outro music: Love at the Five and Dime by Nanci Griffith. Listen at link in bio. #musicpodcast

Entirely correct. Y2K was not a non-event, it was a problem that got solved.
I can't even with these "Y2K was a nonevent" stories. It makes it sound like a false alarm.

Fourteen paragraphs in: "By the evening of Dec. 31, 1999, the overwhelming consensus among people who had worked on the problem was that the necessary work had been done."

The work had been done!
Yes, the Y2K software problem turned out to be a nonevent. But 25 years ago, The New York Times took it seriously, publishing over 100 stories.

Our tech reporter who wrote a front-page article on Jan. 1, 2000, reflects on the crisis that never was.

It's hard to believe that @runningongluten.bsky.social and I have been doing our little podcast for 7 years now, with no shortage at all of cover songs to keep our interest. We have a real beauty for you this week.
Ideal pop song that was far enough ahead of its time to come around again for a second try, and a cover with all the right bits and pieces. There She Goes, originally by The La’s, covered by The Wombats.

Outro music is Sweet Emotion, by Aerosmith. And we promise that makes sense. #musicpodcast

Really happy with this week's episode. But also, this is among the most accurate and yet misleading teaser images we've ever had.

This episode started as a personal indulgence because I wanted to talk about an oft overlooked band that I like. Then the story made it to Scotland and it got weird.
Subtle song from band that never took over the world, but is perfect representation of rich & often overlooked time in music history; cover that leaves it all on the table. Always The Last To Know by Del Amitri, cover: Jill Jackson

Outro: Del Amitri’s Tell Her This, also not named like you’d expect

Genuinely surprising new episode this week. It’s layers of unexpected success all the way down.

Also, I totally crack myself up.
Unlikeliest of artists remakes reliable formula into unlikeliest of mega hits; & a band that does their thing well, but nobody really knows why. Scatman by Scatman John, cover: The Axel Boys Quartet. Outro: Scatman John’s Only You. Alas, it’s not a Yaz cover.

If you're using Telegram? Don't.

At the moment, Signal (signal.org) is the most secure fully mature messaging app that's out there. It's what CULT OF THE DEAD COW uses for our intra-herd conversations, as well as being pretty much the Gold Standard in the information security community right now.

It’s Monday, so @thecoverupcast.bsky.social has a new episode full of crunch cover song goodness
Ep 360! Hugely successful song only coincidentally perfect for a movie, & a serious cover that knew where not to take the original too seriously. Wicked Game, originally by Chris Isaak, covered by Daisy Gray.

Outro music is Threads by Portishead. Listen at link in bio.
