Paper drop, for anyone interested in #metascience, #statistics, or #metaanalysis! @clintin.bsky.social and I show in a new paper in JASA that the P-curve, a popular forensic meta-analysis method, has deeply undesirable statistical properties. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... 1/?

I see someone has made a "fun" interface for the Epstein files because everyone seems to be having fun searching them. Trust me: you will regret it after you stumble on a grooming email. *That* stuff is in there, not just powerful people being awful. It isn't fun. Maybe leave it to the journalists.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Shocking. The argument is so simple but surprising at the same time. I would never have thought about this in practice. Another reason why we should be very careful when operating under "previously established protocols".

Important insight. In a world with all near zero imprecisely-estimated effect sizes, decline would be observed merely because of the convenience of coding originals in the same direction to compare effect size shifts in the aggregate.

How much does it bias systematic replication projects? Good Q!
New draft: "Decline effects, statistical artifacts, and a meta-analytic paradox". In this manuscript I show how a common practice in meta-analysis (eg the 2015 Open Science Collaboration) creates artifactual signatures of poor scientific behavior. PDF: raw.githubusercontent.com/richarddmore... 1/x

This also goes for scientific conferences in the USA: just, no.
Professional athletes are being advised not to leave the hotel or go anywhere without their passports while visiting Minnesota.

This is not a country that can safely host international events like the World Cup.

Boycotting is not even a political question anymore. It is a basic issue of safety.
The Montreal Canadiens are playing the Minnesota Wild in Minneapolis tonight. The players have been recommended to stay in/eat at the hotel, take the team bus to the arena, and carry passports.

Perhaps we shouldn't be hosting the World Cup and the Olympics...

Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

As a TA, the syllabus said all code must at least compile or it’d be an instant fail. 1st assignment comes back, I hand out a lot of 0s.

Next day, my supervising prof calls me in saying the admin got a lot of calls from parents and he wants me to recheck all the scores and issue partial credit.
