I fear my tipping point into madness is "Thus is un-American" posts in response to ICE terrorizing immigrants. I beg you to open Wikipedia (I would say a book but let's start small) and read up on The Trail of Tears, Fugitive Slave Catchers, Japanese internment, Indian Boarding schools & Jim Crow

Part of the issue is that those most actively protesting and leading mutual aid are women and gender non-conforming people. Both groups are illegible to many as protesters. This helps explain the invisibilization of current protests and resistance.

Democratic party: we must spend billions to find out what the people want.

The people: (loudly and clearly, through the very process the Democratic Party set up) We want this.

So, How’s the Occupation Going for You?

Talked to a Somali man today who said his mosque last night was surrounded by neighbors ready to protect them against ICE if needed. Made me feel proud to live in this city.

I grew up 30m from Harper’s Ferry yet we never learned about John Brown in school. This obviously wasn’t an ignorant oversight.
Respectfully, I am going to whisper to some of our white comrades a truth that should be more widely known: You definitely have some ancestors to be proud of, ancestors who refused white supremacy, and poured out their lives in many of these struggles over time.

Time to claim your true history.

Feel this in my soul! Once you start lobbying lawmakers it becomes clear pretty quickly how many of them hate us.
I’m starting to wonder if looking genuinely happy and acting like you really love the city is a more effective way to campaign (and govern) than scowling about what a shithole the city is and how many more cops it will take to subdue it.
Outside Gracie Mansion. This is his job. But dare I day it he seems genuinely affected and happy to be there. There’s potentially immense power in that.

These are prisons.

The criminalization of homelessness and push towards mandated, coerced medical interventions and civil commitment—a bipartisan project—was always going to lead us here.

This is why when we talk about, strategize and organize around abolition, we must include ALL carceral spaces.
Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.

i have been reading Tom Ricks’ “Fighting the Good War” which is a military analysis of the civil rights movement, and one thing that comes abundantly across is that movement leaders and ordinary people made it a practice to refuse to fall into despair and cynicism.

I wrote a quick blog post in 2014 titled "police reforms you should always oppose." It went viral and became the basis of a chart created by Critical Resistance to evaluate abolitionist steps. Money for training and body cams were the first two on my list.

Highly-Paid Political Pundits: "I think we should hear out their arguments"

The Left: "Abolish ICE"

PERIOD.
The problem with ICE is not insufficient training or even training content.

It’s creating an agency where you give people guns and tell them to terrorize Brown people and then recruit people excited to do that.

Not just the encampments. People like Kristof admire the protests that happen ELSEWHERE. They critique those that happen where they live. This is a feature not a bug.
I’m old enough to remember the anti-genocide encampments y’all defamed.

And around and around we go.
Chris Murphy: "It's reasonable for Democrats, speaking on behalf of the majority of the American public who don't approve of what ICE is doing, to say, 'If you want to fund DHS, I want to fund a DHS that is operating in a safe and legal manner.'"
