👇 important 🧵 about Surprise, Arizona residents urging City Council to oppose “a massive warehouse concentration camp in their community.”
Powerful testimony drawing a parallel to the complicity of a WWII-era mayor in Germany who disclaimed any responsibility for the concentration camp in the town.
A resident named Walter calmly took the mic and recounted an April 9, 1945 newspaper clipping about the liberation of the Ohrdruf concentration camp...

"And we don't know exactly how ICE will use this warehouse. But we know enough."

A good thing you can do about this instead of dooming is Google “how to become a poll observer in [your town]”
Breaking:

The White House press secretary just said she "can't guarantee" that ICE won't be around polling locations in November.

Some people are asking what I want Schumer to do. He should be screaming over medical care and access to facilities. He should be going to detention facilities himself and putting his body on the line, as he did at the border in 2019. He should lean into stories about New Yorkers in detention. [1/4]

one of my strongest beliefs is that we're in our situation right now bc some of the most prominent talking heads (e.g. joe rogan, andrew schulz) are learning about politics in their 40s and 50s, instead of their teens and early 20s, and we have to go along for the ride as they learn basic things

This country is going to owe a huge debt to Minnesotans. I hope they erect a giant whistle monument in the Twin Cities some day. I hope they make the whistle the state bird
A manager for the Immigrant Defense Network told MPR News that back in November, 2,500 people were trained as constitutional observers. Now, the total is nearly 30,000 trained observers in 77 of Minnesota's 87 counties.

Our founders, though deeply flawed, understood that democracy requires an informed citizenry and a government accountable to it people. That’s why the press is the only profession protected by the Constitution. It’s also why autocrats and oligarchs seek to control and destroy it.

This indifference or enthusiasm for sexual violence is a cultural pathology born of misogyny, not a peculiar or unique degeneracy of the rich. You know people who have responded to rape like that.

I understand the reasons why it’s more jarring and consequential to see it happen among billionaires, but the kind of shrugging disinterest or impishly approving encouragement of sexual abuse among Epstein’s circle is the same dynamic that happens in less powerful milieus.

I have currently found a channel replaying these episodes, and I can't tell you all how much of a delight it is to revisit them. Jeremy Brett OWNED.
I made this tribute poster to celebrate the Granada Sherlock Holmes series starring Jeremy Brett 2 years ago and it is good. Lots of very specific details from the show. I don't often feel happy with my work but I was going back through old files and thought "people should see this!" So here you go.
