Had a lot of fun responding to these digital preservation questions. Neat to also see how @rfrank.bsky.social and so many other smart folks responded!
LIL fellow @maxy.bsky.social asked 14 scholars, archivists, designers, business leaders & engineers: "If you were given unlimited funding to design a system for storing and preserving digital information for at least a century, what would you do?"

We now have the details of the federal 2026 budget proposal, and it spells the end of IMLS. The request is $6,000,000 to "conduct an orderly closeout of IMLS."

Whatever happens in the 2 court cases would be moot if this passes.

this. so much excitement. so much hope.
For the nonlibrarians who follow me, I wish you could have felt *how excited* my library colleagues were when Carla Hayden was nominated. So respected for her work as a big-city library director & ALA president, back when ALA stood up against the Patriot Act. Impeccable library & leadership cred. 1/

Librarians have been fired all across the federal government, gutting not just ours but the world’s intellectual infrastructure. Devastating.

The judge in the case where 21 state attorneys generals sued the Trump administration over dismantling the IMLS just issued an injunction in favor of the plaintiffs. This is good news & the judge further indicates that the plaintiffs have a STRONG case here.
