Michael Sharp PRO Death Is a Caress 1949 after Watched Jan 16, 2026 These "Nordic Noirs" go way harder than US noirs of the same period. Much more explicit reference to sex. More skin. I swear I saw dick at one point. There's also an abortion. Sadly, there's not much plot at all. Just an oddly distrustful and decaying relationship. Get together break up get together break up etc it gets dull. But there are terrific montage sequences-like, the montage maker was clearly having a blast. Fanciful interstitial shots depicting people responding to horrifying news, or showing time passing during a night of revelry by making watch hands out of two wine bottles, stuff like that. It def drags toward the end, but it's entertaining, and makes a great comparison to DOUBLE INDEMNITY (minus the actual murder, lol) Directed by a woman, too, which almost no U.S. noirs were (I see you, Ida Lupino) (Criterion Channel, "Nordic Noir" collection, 1-16-26)
