I know that it’s a little discordant that the world‘s on fire and I’m over here asking questions for a paper, but, those of you who attended a specifically Episcopal school for your MDiv: was your educational progress tracked in relation to the (TEAC) priestly competencies matrix? ⚓️

Oh y’all. It may be that my background in biochemistry is making me a bit of a snob about how data is collected/analyzed, but I am reading a report on Episcopal theological education and dude just made a conclusion based on words that *aren’t present* on diocesan websites. Is this social science? 🦋

Thanks to everyone who has filled out this survey! If you haven’t, and you have 10 minutes to share your own experience in formation for ordained life, that input would certainly be helpful. ⚓️
Ordained folks: I’m collecting short reflections on formation for ministry - what prepared you, what you weren’t prepared for, and advice you have for the soon-to-be-ordained. ⚓️

Your response will help shape formation for future students. Thanks in advance! forms.gle/tor8J4grMNGb...

I know the majority of priests have MDivs. I don’t - and I really try to avoid mentioning that. But since 2022, I have been going to school while parish-priesting. Today I attended the last lecture for my last class. Still have stuff to write/do before they hand me a degree, but: milestone. 🥹

“Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave…”

People who claim to be Christians: coercive power is not the flex you think it is. ⚓️

Just absolutely spot on time to be taking an intensive class on the Imprecatory Psalms.

A thing I wish more people knew: Therapists are not just for people living with mental illness. They can also help you--short or long-term--find your way through situations your life and relationships so far have not prepared you to navigate without expert support.

It’s wild to think that, for most of my ancestors, an Advil and a hot bath would have been tantamount to a miracle cure. It is meet and right to praise God for a hot bath and an Advil.

📕I rarely ever miss the intensity of the teaching workday. Counterpoint, there was never a day in my teaching career when I sent a question like this to my boss:

There is some evidence that The Malaise™️ has escaped containment to the web.
Rough vibes on this website today, likely because people feel Hopeless and Helpless Because Can't Stop It and No One Who Is Supposed To Is Trying To So Now We're Fighting Each Other™. I recommend activities such as book, or potentially instrument if you like instrument, or even do talk on phone.

I’ve yelled “Yes! Nancy!” at the television a bunch this evening.

I woke up hoarse yesterday and TBTG managed to get a doctors appointment. Walked in and croaked “Doc, No pressure, but I need you to save Christmas…” Anyway, I am so lit up on steroids that I feel great today. But y’all pray that my mostly-back voice holds through the evening? 🙏🏼⚓️

I like to listen to hype music while getting dressed for church. Tempted to wear a full on tux for Christmas Eve.

Alright, Episcopeeps: I’d love it if you weighed in with opinions on reading the Psalms alternatingly by half-verse. I don’t *like* it poetically but it’s not really a hill I want to die on. (Some context as to why I’m asking in the next comment.) ⚓️

I was on a Zoom recently where one of the participants launched immediately into a spiel and didn’t pause for like 45 minutes. It was not a webinar, nor was he the host. Anyway: Zoom needs a button I can push to say “imma go make tea. Holler when he’s wrapping up.”

My parents sent baby pictures with their card. I would still be equally gleeful to pretend to drive a tractor.

Another AI-related question for the Narthex: Pretend you're the interim rector/vicar of a congregation and you miss a vestry/BC meeting. At that meeting, another associated clergy person proposes a new logo for the congregation. It's AI-generated. The vestry/BC ADOPTS it. What's your plan? ⚓

Guillermo del Toro on wealth: "a wealthy man is a man who has enough, not a man that needs more. If you have enough to invite someone for a beer? You're rich. If you have a yacht, planes, islands, and you still need more? You're not rich."
