#MSH45 | "Our top story..."
Alongside unrest in Miami after the McDuffie verdict, the largest volcanic eruption in the continental United States this century leads every major network broadcast on May 18.

Dozens feared dead.
Roads gone.
Bridges snapped.
Helicopters crisscrossing the ash fields.

On the 45th anniversary of the eruption, I want to end today’s coverage with a reflection for the 57 people who lost their lives on Sunday, May 18, 1980.

Today, more than ever. #Texas, have you checked your municipal elections? They’re always the first Saturday in May and early voting is under way. I did my duty early.

This post is brought to you by #Amendments 13, 14, 15, 19, 24, and 26. #LocalElectionsMatter #LegacyOfSelma

I’m always disappointed and dismayed by how little the U.S. seems to think about this day 30 years ago. With the national temperature and who the perpetrators were, it should take on added meaning. #OKC

Remember when news like today’s events at Florida State would stop us in our tracks and glue us to TV sets? Just noticed in a full restaurant that I’m the only one watching what’s happening on the news. Everyone else is tending to their fajitas and talking about everything but this. #Desensitized

Watch seismic waves from the M7.7 earthquake in Myanmar ripple across North America.

This animation, called a Ground Motion Visualization (GMV), shows how the ground moved as detected by seismometers across the continent.

#GeographyIsLife: The global marketplace is gigantic. You can always find what you need.
Found in a Canadian grocery store. A lot of countries grow oranges. Good bye, Florida 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

George Foreman stands as one of the most powerful boxers of all time.

His comeback was also a singular achievement and can serve as an inspiration to all of us fortysomething dudes.

Another place every American should visit: The Edmund Pettus Bridge, #Selma, #Alabama. 60 years ago today, #votingrights marchers trying to make the 54-mile trek along U.S. 80 to #Montgomery were fiercely turned back by state troopers who clubbed, whipped, tear gassed, and trampled them with horses.

A place every American should visit: #OklahomaCity Bombing Museum & Memorial. Brilliant, powerful, and moving homage to the 168 lives taken by anti-government, supremacy-based hatred in 1995, and a tribute to OKC’s resilience during those days and weeks afterward and the community’s rebirth.

I was bummed that I didn’t make it back to #Alaska this winter but the low temp last night here in North Texas was the same as the high in Fairbanks this time last year. Broke out the snow pants and boots to wear around the house today. #Dallaska ❄️

A stroll and a meal through #Fairbanks, one year ago. I learned #Alaska grows a lot of #blueberries and that Blueberry Moscow Mules are refreshing after subfreezing walks. Oh, and the Museum of the North at @uafairbanks.bsky.social is 💯💯💯.

Continuing my deep dive escape back into the talk shows of my 90s teen years, one question: If a friend brought you to a national TV show to tell you a secret, why didn’t you know it would likely be bad? I’m shocked at all of the shock. 😂😂

It is Black History Month and each day this month I am sharing stories from Canada's Black history.

Today it is the story of Phil Edwards! He was one of Canada's most decorated Olympians, a Canadian Army captain and a highly regarded physician.
Let's learn his story!

This weekend turned into a nostalgic comfort binge watching fest. Streamed Gimme A Break, Mama’s Family, Jerry Springer, Living Single, and Martin, and I found some episodes of The Facts of Life, Diff’rent Strokes, and Ricki Lake. I miss the 90s! 🥺😁
