In 2019 I decided I wanted to read all the Marvel comics* starting from Fantastic Four #1 onward. I've been reading on and off and I'm up to around 1979 on most titles. Follow if you want to hear my random musings about comics, TTRPGS, and other geekery.
My favourite comics are when the bricks from different teams get to team up to punch something really big. Hulk and Thing punching a supervillain at the same time is the ultimate expression of this, though Thor and Hercules comes close.

Random comment, but I love that A.I.M. henchmen wear their cylindrical hazmat helmets even when they're nowhere near a laboratory.

Moving forward from the Inhumans and the Guardians of the Galaxy, it's Gerry Conway and John Buscema's Ms. Marvel (the original)!

23 issues from January 1977 to April 10, 1979, which I think is the full run. I've read these before, but it was a long time ago and I'm looking forward to the re-read.

Post a comic cover you love.

One of my favourite thing in comics is when henchmen show uncommon common sense and realize the ridiculousness of their position when going up against superheroes.

From the Gerber run of Guardians of the Galaxy I just finished:

I really like the current incarnation of the Guardians of the Galaxy but as I read the older Gerber stuff, I have to say that the concept of one survivor of each of the planets in our solar system, separated by 1000s of years of evolution, is really cool and would make a great movie or miniseries.

My next read: Marvel Presents -- specifically the short run of Guardians of the Galaxy by Steve Gerber, one of my favourite writers.

This is the first iteration of the Guardians, which I actually enjoy as more thematically coherent, if a little more dated.

More thoughts on the George Perez run of the Inhumans:

I think more comic book runs should end with the heroes fighting the Hulk. It makes for easy milestones.

First you fight Spidey because of a misunderstanding.

Thoughts on hitting the end of the George Perez Inhumans' run:

I'd actually like to read more Triton. I haven't read a lot of Namor beyond the Silver Age, so maybe he'll show up in some of those books.

This nearly killed me, thinking of the ten-year old that Karnak probably beat for the trophy.

I posted on *three platforms* just over *20 minutes* after Radio-Canada first misidentified this innocent trans woman as a mass shooter on national television in a 6:00pmET broadcast.

I tagged Radio Canada and Patrice Roy.

They didn't issue a correction until after 2:00pmET today.

Unacceptable.
Radio-Canada apologizes after it aired a photo circulated by anti-trans hate groups online, falsely claiming it was a photo of the Tumbler Ridge shooter. Damaging and irresponsible, and this apology raises more questions about journalistic process imho.

Today was "a day." It's a good night for comics and Vitamin String Quartet.

If Lockjaw from the Inhumans was a human character, he'd be reviled as lazy writing and a "win button." But because he's the bestest dog in the world, it's fine.

What are your biggest "I saw that in the first run cinema" flexes?

Batman (1989) - Not impressive, but I saw it in a drivethrough, which has to be a relatively rare experience.

Also The Crow, Office Space, and Reservoir Dogs.
What are your biggest “I saw that in the first run cinema” flexes?

Krull (1983)
Top Secret! (1984)
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988)

*also Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and Office Space
Have asked this before and always like the responses. What are your biggest “I saw that in the first run cinema” flexes? Couple of mine:

Transformers: The Movie (1986)
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)
Office Space (1999)

It's taken me a long time to come around to Inhumans comics. I'm primarily a street-level supers fan, and the Inhumans are about as far as you can get from street-level without going full cosmic. Fortunately, there have been some amazing Inhumans runs that have made me a fan.

I'm reading the 12 issue Inhumans run from the mid-70s, written by Doug Moench and drawn by George Perez. Perez' art is so precise and clear, and it allowed him to draw scenes from perspectives and with flows of action that would be really hard to follow otherwise.

I'm reading old Marvel Premiere issues from the 70s, and one of the debut characters is the third version of the Torpedo.

This is a blonde, white man was the star quarterback in highschool. He has a wife and kids and a job in insurance. It's the dullest backstory I've read so far.
February 12, 2026 at 12:34 AM
So I've been reading the Marvel Premiere issues on MU. It includes the origins of Scott Lang as Ant-Man and Black Panther fighting the Klan.

There are also issues for Man-Wolf, Jack of Hearts, and Torpedo.

So it's a mixed bag, is what I'm saying.

Marvel's 3D-Man is like an upgrade to Nighthawk. Nighthawk has the strength of two men (which is a horrible superpower).

But 3D-Man has the strength of three men! Which is slightly better!

Ka-Zar run complete. On to some of the Marvel Premiere issues I haven't read yet, starting with Marvel Premiere 35 -- the origin of 3-D Man!
February 11, 2026 at 1:00 AM
Time for more Ka-Zar (1974-77). I will say that while the art in these issues is beautiful, they are very much a product of their time, and honestly feel more like some of the 60s Marvel comics at times than a 70s comic.
February 10, 2026 at 11:24 PM
So I'm up to Ghost Rider 41 (Feb 1, 1980), so that's a good point to jump to another title. I've got about 15 issues of Ka-Zar to read to finish the 1974-77 run, so I think I'll read those next.

When I see complaints about a modern comic being nonsensical, I think about an early Fantastic Four issue.

It's the one where Namor starts a movie studio with treasure found in stolen ships for the sole purpose of luring the FF in with the promise of movie stardom and trapping them.
