When the Trump asks a reporter, "Who are you with?", the response should be, "No, Mr. President. The question is 'who are YOU with?'."

Did you know that in Canada, if a budget doesn’t pass the government doesn’t shut down?

Federal workers aren’t furloughed.

Funding for social services doesn’t dry up.

Failure to pass a budget triggers an election.

It puts the politicians jobs on the line.

They get the budget passed.

It's pretty clear we're not getting our healthcare demands. So the shutdown is now about scoring political points (a valid goal!), and how much suffering to tolerate to achieve that, and how long before it risks backfiring. And I don't know the right answer, and neither does anyone else.

This is what I was talking about Friday when I said Republicans are in a vise. Their options were to lose or pyrrhric victory, & the whole thing about pyrrhic victories is you don't actually win!
like as much as this site is in a fit of justified anger over this, the GOP... does not actually win anything by fucking over insurance markets
if they don't fix Obamacare credits and/or fuck it by replacing it with HSAs, next year is going to be uhhhh a healthcare election

The paradox of accelerated recruitment for ICE and CBP that supposedly will make America safer is that with lower standards and fewer checks it leaves key parts of the American security state wide open to infiltration and subversion by enormously wealthy drug cartels.

The NY Times published an editorial citing Susan Collin as "a moderate Republican." Collins is a reliable vote for Trump's agenda, has voted against democracy at every turn and supported extremist judges.

This is why people are abandoning legacy media--even while enjoying games, puzzles & recipes.
