Congratulations to Nathan Gill’s successor as Reform Leader in Wales. Bizarre to pick someone who has spent the last 27 years living in London and abandoned his role as a councillor a few weeks ago. Bit of a kick in the teeth for overlooked local Reform representatives.

Officially, Boris Johnson was brought down by Chris Pincher. In reality, it was PartyGate and utter moral failure of his project.

Officially Keir Starmer will be brought down by Mandelson. But he'd survive this easily if his project hadn't been so piss-weak, disappointing, and morally spineless.

Peter Mandelson is brilliant, but slippery. Connected, but compromised. Why was Starmer too naive to recognise that?

In the mid-1970s, approximately 77% of the UK population had never been outside Britain. Of those who had many had only been abroad to fight in wars.

The "1970s were great" people forget that one.

Today the figure is about 5-6%
Was intrigued, rereading the wonderful The Ghost of Thomas Kempe, to find somebody’s house having central heating being noted as remarkable. In 1973!

And indeed, only about 30 percent of UK homes would have had central heating when the book was published.
