Two friends each buy a tub. Each opens their tub, then each hands it off to the other to take home and use.

Each has opened the product, but neither used that product.
The fucking protein powder has a shrink wrap arbitration agreement now? This is like a nightmare law school hypo

What happened to recluses? Hardly see any these days.

You must ask yourself, what did the worst people of the time tell children the culture and society of another time treated as no big deal?

Holy shit. I finished writing a book today. I've never done this before.

I know I have a lot of work ahead of me to turn this into something that is even borderline digestible, but I'm shaking, quietly revelling, just having managed this much.

Okay, but if this is allowed, I would like the next president to paint the place up like some of the wilder rainbow Victorians in San Francisco.

Let's just unwind the old myths of monochromatic classicism. Repaint those old marble statues. Make those pillars sing.
no but this is crazy

Why, in 2025, would you even consider buying a toaster that cannot give you medical advice?

For those future readers of my unfinished novel, I want you to know that I wrote the chapters about the CEO using an AI avatar before this happened.

I can't keep up with how absurd the present is, much less stay ahead of how stupid it will become.

Such is the recent future.

As Derek explains, a system where copyright owners call the shots on AI development will benefit exactly the big companies that most working artists loathe - the monopolies and monopsonies whose buying and selling power keep the cost of artists' labor low.

Sometimes I think about James Hong shouting, "Cartwright!" and it is enough. With this thought in my corner, I am enough.

So think about James Hong shouting, "Cartwright!" and breathe.

Classic FedEx blunder: Suggesting I leave the house, even when I'm in Waiting Mode.
they somehow tried to deliver to the wrong address then said i wasn't there, incredible

I'm nostalgic for a time I barely remember, when everything was Communism. That was before my formative years, when everything became terrorism.

What will everything be after it stops being woke?

If you believe what the Trump administration says about the government of El Salvador, if you believe Trump's excuses for his cruelty and incompetence, then you have ample evidence that every petition for asylum from someone leaving El Salvador should be granted automatically.

How much of the (non-Signal) insane news that I'm reading was enabled by the 2012 NDAA?

Can @normative.bsky.social tell me? You were doing stuff back then. That's when we met but I don't expect you'd remember that.

How long has it been since you could name all the countries where the USA was at war? Like actual declared war?

For me, a solid 13 years, and I try to keep track!

My daily 5% confident Mark My Words:

AI will create a permanent Yes Man hazard. And, deployed by people who already have power, this will give rise to problems of agency and accountability.

There's always a tendency for credit to go up, and blame to go down.

This will gross some people out, but one thing I love about cast iron is the residue of flavors. I like when my eggs taste like yesterday's broccoli and soy sauce or BBQ chicken. I don't know if it's safe and I don't care.

Okay, keep scrolling, there's plenty of doom to consume.

"This, too, shall pass," is comforting but also literally true of kidney stones.
History: “Eventually the incompetent fascists invariably lose power and then society recovers in a new and stronger way”

Me: “Oh, cool, so what has to happen for the spell to be broken??”

History: “mmmm…well, that part is less encouraging.”

Out here to ask again: Can someone at Vanguard or Schwab or something please make an S&P500-1 index fund, which is just the S&P500 without Tesla?

Asking for a friend/country.

New genres are created every day by a brute engagement-driven Darwinian media system.
Facebook’s algorithm is really broken beyond repair. 70% of my feed is dystopian AI slop.

I hope that next time, the Chronicle reports on this after the event, rather than using their huge megaphone to give him free publicity, risking a self-defeating prophesy.

Occasionally I hear a piece of music and think, "Wow, that's really what I've been going for. This is it. They did it!" But I don't actually like listening to it.
