Loving today's news that the mysterious "fedora man" outside the Louvre heist was actually a 15-year-old museum visitor who dresses like a 1940s French detective all the time, just because. apnews.com/article/louv...

A friend's favourite Halloween story is when they - a teenager in the 90s - went trick or treating with friends, and stopped at an old guy's house who rolled his eyes to see teens, told them to "wait a fucking minute" and came back, tossing packs of cigarettes and bottles of beer in to their bags.

It's cold and rainy and we had THREE trick-or-treaters (a spiderman in a winter coat, a unicorn in a winter coat and a baby holding a wee pumpkin bucket).

Weird because I could have sworn the NYT told us we shouldn't worry about these viruses and should just get back to brunch
A number of viral infections, including flu, Covid-19 and shingles, are linked to an increased risk of heart disease and stroke, a new study affirmed.
Covid and Flu Can Triple Your Risk of Heart Attack
A new analysis adds to the research about the link between viral infections and heart disease.

One of my kids and I are taking turns reading chapters of House of Leaves but we managed to lose the book someplace inside the house, which feels like a thing that would happen in House of Leaves.

It was under a chair, anyhow, so now I have to read my chapters today.

Made the mistake of looking at the town Facebook group and I have "learned" so many "things':
1. solar energy is a scam and is bad for the environment
2. conservatives are being hate-crimed by leftists, of whom there are lots and lots in my tiny rural town
3. the only good electric car is a Tesla.

I am going to peel and roast a lot of beets this afternoon and I am reminded that doing so will make my kitchen look like I have other, darker hobbies.

It's a long and mostly stupid story but I am apparently going to a workshop next week on how to tell if dolls are haunted, so if you have any possibly-haunted dolls, please let me, a soon-to-be-expert, know.

This is an emergency - not for me but for one of my children's friends - does anyone know anything about getting emergency medical funding in Arkansas? (I'm Canadian and know nothing.)

I'm looking for fun multiplayer games that should be light-hearted, modestly empty-headed (they don't have to be dumb but no strategy games) and not scary. Peak has already been played and was beloved. Suggestions?

My oldest daughter told my youngest daughter that she COULD wear a costume to her Halloween wedding, and I don't know what she expected, but youngest daughter is carefully crafting her THE FLY FROM THE 1958 MOVIE THE FLY COSTUME.

If you are Kayla and have a straying boyfriend named Matt, NEVER FEAR because your absolutely furious best friend just called my 55 year old husband not-Matt on your behalf ("I just have some questions, MATT!") and promises to KEEP CALLING NUMBERS till she tracks Real Matt down.

My parents - who are in their 70s - have sprawling comfortable outside seats underneath the branches of some mysterious sheltering berrying tree and endless amounts of boxed white wine - and their casual friendly hospitality makes me feel that my natural state is "modestly drunk at my parents".

My youngest child bought a 1970s bartending book at a library sale and made the interesting discovery that drinking habits and tastes have changed radically and that people also used to put a lot of egg whites in their cocktails.

1/2 I have been asked to help find resources - both online and specific to Kingston, Ontario - for a young child who has tentative ADHD, ODD and autism and comes from a family with very limited financial resources. They had a terrible year in school.

I need very specific book recommendations! My MIL is starting a short course of chemo to try and extend her life (she has stage 4 pancreatic cancer), so I'm loading up my old Kindle for her (despite my feelings about Amazon - it's what I have.). She loves country music, romance, small towns. (1/2)
