In 1941, the Royal Canadian Air Force Women's Division was established.
During the Second World War, 17,000 enlisted to serve with it, and 30 lost their lives in active service.

In Canada, August 9 is commemorated as National Peacekeepers’ Day. We remember all Canadian peacekeepers, past and present.
On August 9 1974 nine Canadian peacekeepers were killed when their aircraft was shot down in Syria. They are the Buffalo Nine.
