I study the intersection of identity development + social media + #literacies at a university.

Big fan of critical thinking, civil discourse, silliness, and dismantling injustice. I also like my dog and paranormal stuff.

Genuinely delighted to download a PhD thesis from a university repository where the author has neglected to remove the words "BITCH THIS IS YOUR THESIS" from the filename.

Super exciting paper showing that high schools vary in their impacts on civic engagement. Schools that are better at improving academic outcomes are also better at creating voters.

Kirsten was a @wheelockpolicybu.bsky.social postdoc when she began this work, so it's thrilling to see the result.

I’m sorry, but I will never ever ever call the Tappan Zee bridge anything other than the Tappan Zee bridge. Every time I see a Mario C*omo sign I want to scream and it’s been so many years.

People can have differing politics. You can oppose immigration, have views on limited taxes, be tough on crime, support an Israeli state - you can believe all of these things, but you also MUST have empathy and realize that your political views are not an excuse for intolerable cruelty.

Good news Wednesday! I have never submitted to #LRA, but I did this year, I was accepted to present my paper- “Navigating Digital Realities: Understanding Young People's Engagement with Social Media for News, Political Information, and Identity Formation” 🎉

The problem, of course, isn’t that NPR has a liberal bias, it’s that facts have a liberal bias and today’s GOP is almost unanimous in its opposition to facts.

Roosevelt understood that boredom, frustration, and social isolation could easily turn people (and especially young men*) toward violence, hate, and conspiracies.

Ma’am. I feel like she should have been a little more frightened, but I’m glad she wasn’t. When I passed, she was still hanging.

I don’t care what you call it- investment in education, communities, and children will always have positive reverberations.
Mayor Brandon Scott has reduced crime in Baltimore by 62%, and now has the lowest homicide rate in Baltimore history.

How did he do it?

NOT be spending more on police. He did it by MAJOR investment in afterschool and literacy programs.

Make America compassionate and empathetic (for once, not again)
Laughing in front of cages designed to hold migrants and refugees, many of whom came to this country fleeing extreme violence and poverty, and hoping to raise their children in a more compassionate country. And many of whom followed all the legal procedures to enter the country.

Every time a congressperson speaks lately, it feels like “thoughts and prayers”.
This is only the most recent unconstitutional thing. If I read another congressional statement “condemning” these actions, I’m going to SCREAM. Congress we are BEGGING you to put down your official social media letterhead and ACT. Blood is on all of your hands. @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social

This is abhorrent. We are so worried about saving the kids from everything under the sun, except the very things we can help with.

I know I speak for so many adults when I say our doors are always open to talk to anybody who needs it.
