The way to have *avoided* all of this was on the ballot box.

The only way to fix it is at the ballot box.

Trump just paused all federal spending to our communities. Why? He needs to free up money to give corrupt billionaires and corporations tax cuts. Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress are cheering him on.

One line of bullshit that Trump is getting away with: "Oh, they're just assessing programs, all new Admins do." Even ignoring that, no, they don't all do that, this is the Project 2025 Hit the Ground Running implementation. They've been "assessing programs" for two years.

This blatantly illegal move by the Trump Administration should have severe consequences. None of his remaining cabinet picks should receive a single Democratic vote until all is remedied and we can ensure this won’t happen again.

Congress holds the power of spending, not him.

He threw paper towels. He minimize the catastrophe. He withheld disaster recovery funds.
Trump is aroused by his own claims that there is death everywhere in Los Angeles.

The death toll in Puerto Rico from Hurricane Maria was almost 3,000. He threw paper towels.

Puerto Ricans are painfully aware of the President-elect’s approach to disaster aid response.
Schiff: "I've been in Congress a long time approving aid after disasters. I never once even considered 'is this hurricane hitting a red or blue state?' ... we need the incoming president to view it that way."

Yes.
I recommend no fewer than 4 copies of any beloved book. A paperback for traveling and lending to friends, an eBook for reading with greasy snack fingers, an audio book so you know how the characters' names are actually pronounced, and a pristine hardcover to be buried with you like a pharaoh

Elon Musk is arguably the most powerful person in business, the most powerful man in media and, at least at this moment, the most powerful man in politics.

This much power, across this many pillars of society, is without precedent.
Behind the Curtain: Musk's America
Musk yesterday single-handedly, his voice amplified by his daylong bombardment of scores of tweets on his X platform, sank a bipartisan House spending bill aimed at preventing a government shutdown.

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive
