Is this an "AI get out of jail free" card? There's an article in Le Devoir on how an unannounced clause in the budget implementation bill allows a Minister to exempt any person/company/province from any law (other than Criminal Code) if Minister deems it is in public interest & supports innovation

Hi Bluesky 👋

Small life update: I’m at the centre of a multimillion dollar lawsuit in Alberta launched by a failed candidate for Jason Kenney’s UCP

It may be the longest and most expensive media trial in Canadian history

I’m ready to go public about it and I want to share more details with you 🧵

First some background: In 2019, I wrote a story about a UCP candidate named Caylan Ford

I obtained leaked messages showing Caylan Ford making controversial statements about race, immigration and white supremacist terrorism

Caylan Ford resigned and Jason Kenney publicly condemned her comments

I've finally got around to curating a selection of films about the #climate crisis 🎥

There's lot of mediocre climate films out there, but for me these stand out head & shoulders above the rest 🎞️

They make excellent resources for classrooms, lecture halls, or community cinema's 🎬

Dear Albertans.
Today we face the prospect that Ms Smith will legislate teachers back to work 'cos it says we can't afford to settle.
Meanwhile the GoA is paying $$ (so far $237M - likely as much as $650M) to Aussie coal companies to settle claims created by the UCP's own incompetence

Rents in Montreal doubled since 2019 while our politicians did nothing.

Montreal desperately needs to restore some of its affordability — this should be a priority for every mayoral candidate.

Otherwise, don’t expect us to vote for you.

How many plants like one proposed in Manitoba would we need to offset even one quarter of global CO₂ emissions at today's rate of emission? ~20,000 plants.

That’s $10 trillion to build at the current price — not counting operating costs.

Don’t let anyone fool you into thinking carbon dioxide removal is the solution to climate change.

It’s a small piece of the puzzle. But it won't be able to offset a substantial portion of our fossil fuel emissions 🧵

Canada's Suncor at the very bottom of the ranking of major oil and gas companies' renewable energy holding with 1 tiny wind project, while the other oil sands giants CNRL and Cenovus have none.
But we're still supposed to take them seriously as good-faith actors when it comes to climate policy.
