The most troubling thing about The Family Stone is how often an event takes place at breakfast and then the characters seem to still be immediately reacting to it after dark. Entire days disappear. I'm to believe that Sarah Jessica Parker's character spent HOURS soaked in raw eggs?

In one of my last books, I caved and changed a bunch of commas to semicolons, and I regret it. It sounds false!
(This is not a knock on semicolons, which I use all the time -- occasionally correctly. This is about specific situations when only a comma will do.)

Sometimes characters run sentences together! I can't help that! I try to use semicolons and dashes, but they sound different than a comma. Sometimes you have to splice!!!!
