#astro #physics in #uk is looking bad for funding 😢
More on catastrophic cuts to UK astronomy & particle physics. Costs of facilities & international subscriptions go up so grants line and individual projects are cut. If the Government is serious about backing science & technology, they need to fix this. www.space.com/astronomy/uk...
UK government proposes 30% budget cut to astronomy and physics research: 'It's pretty disastrous'
"You can't have a cut of that scale and not expect to see a massive impact."

My latest Forbes piece is inspired by an actual conversation with my wife this morning. My 101 on why socks are so important and the "multiple" ways feet are important to our core body temperature. I promise you are going to learn something reading it.

Sea urchins 😢 #marine #ocean
Reality keeps asserting itself whether we’re ready or not. We are watching sea urchins collapse across oceans, another reminder that Earth systems don’t care about our attention, consensus, or permission. A dramatic rethink of security has never been clearer.

just a reminder: if fire hydrants near where you live are buried in snow after this week’s storms, it’s a mitzvah (and a gooooood workout!) to dig out around that hydrant so fire crews can get to it faster if need be.

Discord now?! 🤦🏻‍♀️
Discord probably won't last long after its IPO sadly. Any sort of long term viability for social media will be dependent on the rules for such things being dictated by its users (or some sort of benevolent private ownership aka a unicorn)

And do it begins….
France announced today it’s phasing out Teams, Zoom, etc. to be replaced with a French/European solution called Visio. The data is hosted on Outscale. Transcripts and subtitles are also handled by French providers. The target is set on 2027 for government agencies.
