Art.

I draw and paint a lot.
(I did a drawing a day in 2024.)

This year I’m listening to records and drawing little pictures of the covers.

My concertina sketchbook.

Mostly created from late July to late August, but with some finishing touches since.
I listened to this earlier today and I enjoyed it a lot.

Here are my small drawings of albums I’ve listened to this week, including new purchases from @lookingforthemagic.bsky.social and @logofiasco.bsky.social.

I was very pleased with the squashed Neil Young face in the corner of ‘American Stars ‘n Bars’.

A few weeks ago I got a CD of the Missing Hancocks from a charity shop. I loved the performances & particularly the scripts. I’d seen a few telly episodes but never heard the radio ones.

So I’ve decided to listen to all the existing Hancock radio episodes in order, along with the re-made ones.

American English, 1987

I taped ‘Building A Bridge to Your Heart’ off the radio when I was 11.

Yesterday I finally heard the LP (bought on Friday.)

‘Bug in the Machine’ stood out: the only song sung by Gouldman. Reminiscent of New Order?

I feel sorry for that cover model.

After work yesterday I rewarded/treated myself: visiting two nearby record shops: @logofiasco.bsky.social
and the newly-opened
@lookingforthemagic.bsky.social
which is about a minute’s walk away from where I work… dangerously close…

I listened this morning.
What a great podcast this is.
A new episode of World of Telly is out now. This week we look at the political thriller Harry's Game from October 1982. It's available wherever you get your podcasts. The video version of this episode will be out next week.

Music For Films III
By Brian Eno & others

I made the mistake of listening to this while feeling uneasy this morning… my anxiety increased with each track.

Only Harold Budd's piece made me feel a bit better.

(& my heart sinks when I get a CD off the shelf and realise it's a water-damaged one.)

It’s good to see that this magical collection of Bill Fay’s earliest work is going to be available again (digitally.) Available for preorder on Bandcamp.

The CD is one of my most treasured - it was an amazing thing when it was released, to hear so many previously unknown Bill songs.

This week I listened to these records/CDs and then drew them.

I enjoyed drawing D. Bowie’s ‘Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust’ and ‘Early On’, and Paul McCartney’s first solo LP.

I struggled with Mike Oldfield’s ‘Ommadawn’.

I’ve now drawn 1005 of these mini pictures…

On 1st January, I started drawing little copies of every record or CD I listened to.

This afternoon, I drew the 1000th mini-drawing.

45 years ago this week Tom Baker was in a swamp, Nyree Dawn Porter was in a void, Dennis Potter was in Eastbourne, Brigit Forsyth was in a swimsuit adorned with saucepans, and Peter Purves was in Newcastle commentating on fireworks. All this and Ollie Beak too!

Two of my favourite albums, re-re-reissued.

I’ve only got them on the 1998 See For Miles CD…

Tempting…

The first two albums by the late folk and folk songwriter return, each reissue replicating the original UK pressing.

What a brilliant description.
I felt the same.
When I first heard His & Hers in 1994 a new kind of music was opened up to me, recently-arrived. I hadn’t heard anything like it - Rising Damp and Lindsey Anderson as pop music
