He wrote believable love and companionship. Sybil and Vimes are a love pair, a romance of sorts, but an understated one, a real one. They aren’t “pretty”, they’re not all fire and passion that fizzles out. It is connection, understanding, familiarity. He didn’t write romance, he wrote love.
