Bonfires can bring communities together, but there’s nothing cultural about racism, sectarian threats, or putting people’s homes & health at risk. When bonfires are used to intimidate or target minorities, that isn’t tradition - it’s hate. Celebration is about respect, safety, & dignity for all.
A group of life-sized dummies, dressed to resemble people, are arranged in a small boat placed on top of a large wooden bonfire structure. The dummies wear orange life jackets and are positioned as if sitting together in the boat. The bonfire is built from stacked wooden pallets and towers several metres high. The scene is outdoors under a clear sky, and the overall mood is tense and provocative. The words “RACISM ISN’T CULTURE” and “STOP THE BOATS” are clearly visible within the image, along with the Green Party logo. No real people are present.

Despite the political slurry in Budapest, the corporate slurry in Dublin, and even the literal slurry in Ballymena! Greens from every corner of this island came out in force for Pride today. Because Pride isn’t just a party. It’s a protest. It’s a refusal to accept the creeping tide of far-right hate, transphobia, and queer erasure at home and across Europe. From the halls of power to the streets of our towns, we’re fighting for a world where LGBTQ+ people are safe, seen, and celebrated every day of the year. We’re not here for photo ops. We’re here because we believe in liberation and we won’t back down. Not now. Not ever.

We have the worst drug death rate in Europe. The shift to treating addiction as a health crisis is saving lives.
