My favorite Christmas story.
Punctuation matters. Way more than you think. Bad punctuation can be devastating.

Don't believe me?

Alright, then gather around, children, because I'm going to tell you a short true story about how not understanding ONE punctuation mark once cost a company millions of dollars in a lawsuit.

Me, pretentious? Balderdash!
Personality types based on fav punctuation:

Oxford comma – pretentious, rarely correct but loud about it

Em dash – disingenuous and usually hiding something

Exclamation mark – HR’s fave, tells you to smile more

Ellipsis – emotionally unavailable and proud

Oxford comma news: Dutch paper Telegraaf wrote “a [demonstration] organized by Hamas-linked organizations, Milli Gorus and the FIO.” FIO sued saying this implied they were Hamas-linked; in fact it was an additive comma, not explicatory. But judge ordered a correction placed online.

Plug and LEGO!
Would you rather stop using the Oxford comma or step on an up-turned plug with no shoes on?

Whilst it may not solve all of the world’s problems, I think we can all agree that having more bakeries, libraries, structures with gargoyles, quaint cafés, museums, Ukraine flags, independent bookstores, and Oxford commas would be an important first step.

I just saw a post alleging that among the “tells” a post is written by ChatGPT is use of an em dash—not to be confused with its younger sibling the en dash, or lil’ baby hyphen—and frankly fuck that.

The noble em dash is maybe the most versatile punctuation—I use it constantly.

Whoever wrote this sentence loves the rule of threes but does NOT love consistent Oxford comma usage

Just a kindly reminder that you are only one person and you can't fix everything, nor is it your job to do so. Focus on what you can control. Focus on what brings you peace, love, and happiness. Focus on the Oxford comma. Wait, what?

I am an Oxford comma user judge. If you don’t use it, you may listen to my 12 part podcast about why you’re wrong.
911: What’s your emergency?
ME: SOMEONE STOLE MY COMMA.
911: When did you see it last?
ME: JUST BEFORE I POSTED.
911: Where was it?
ME: IN FRONT OF THE “AND.”
911: Sir, that’s an Oxford comma.
ME: SO?!?
911: Well, they’re not really necessary.
ME: GO GET YOUR SUPERVISOR.

Sorry, I thought it was now known as the Comma of America
Just blocked someone for referring to a vocative comma as an Oxford comma, so don’t press your luck.

Oxford comma. It’s important. Use it people or you may regret it . Also, learn when to use and not use an apostrophe. Yes, it matters! Perhaps I can sleep now that I got that out there.

Oh dear.
Dinner at Mcdonald’s. Got this tray liner. Even with the color grading that makes the English muffin look moldy, I think the most disconcerting thing about it is that two of the paragraphs use the Oxford comma and one doesn’t. 🤔

Word of the day is a favourite, from old Scots.

To ‘tartle’ is to hesitate while introducing someone because you have completely forgotten their name.

I've been neglecting my thesis on the Oxford comma in the movies. The archetype remains "Sex, Lies, and Videotape" (1989) and the antitype "Mother, Jugs and Speed" (1976), but I'm not sure where to put "Crazy, Stupid, Love." (2011)
