We can all celebrate that the #Pawtucket & Central Falls Transit Center and @mbta-cr.bsky.social stop finally has bathrooms for passengers, @ripta.com drivers, & everyone else. Safe, clean bathrooms are a baseline for civilization. But we also need reliable, fast #PublicTransit 🚌 💙 #FundRIPTA

Congratulations to all of the hardworking tradespeople who worked to bring the Pawtucket/Central Falls Passenger Building online!

Facilities like these underscore the importance of public transit and its users, as elected leaders each reiterated in remarks prior to cutting the ribbon. 🧵

📢We are grateful to see the recognition of RIPTA’s importance in Governor McKee’s FY27 budget, which allocates funds to fill the agency’s deficit.

🚌❌But the reality remains that the impacts of the largest bus service cuts in RIPTA’s history, enacted last fall, are devastating for riders & drivers.

Urging Rhode Island State Senators & Representatives to fully fund RIPTA so service cuts can be restored. 🙏🏻 Winter weather is here, and service cuts have resulted in many bus routes running less often. Riders are left waiting longer in freezing temperatures. TRANSIT IS ESSENTIAL!! 🚌

2025 was brutal for US transit. Agencies faced budget deficits, flat ridership, and open hostility from the White House.

I wrote a series of stories outlining ways to help transit endure.

Lesson #1: Whatever you do, don’t cut service. Riders will leave – permanently.

Here are a few others 🧵
The Last Thing US Transit Agencies Should Do Now
Rising costs and widening deficits as pandemic aid runs out are challenging bus and train operators in many cities. But cutting service needs to be a last resort.

Big news from leadership that understands the vital economic connection and untapped potential of transit between Fall River and PVD & Newport.

We congratulate @massgovernor.bsky.social for doing more to expand public transit in Rhode Island than anything our own Governor has done in four years.

Join PVD Planning for a meeting reimagining the Providence Riverwalk and Memorial Blvd! While the plan stops short of a full road diet, something Memorial needs badly, the accessibility upgrades throughout Waterplace Park, Memorial Boulevard, and Steeple Street will be significant.
