Community members are urging Mayor Smiley and City Council members to work collaboratively to lower statutory speed limits from 25mph to 20mph on local streets and to prioritize safety countermeasures on the High Priority Network in order to help prevent severe crashes…

In 2025 across Rhode Island, seven pedestrians and bike riders were killed in preventable traffic crashes. Hundreds more people have been injured in crashes in that time. This is part of a nationwide public health crisis of more than 44,000 people killed in crashes in the U.S. in 2024

He was an avid sports fan, never missing a good baseball or football game. Michael was the family historian, an avid walker, and read the newspaper front to back daily. He will be remembered for his huge smile, lingering laughs, & kindness. He was grateful for his community of neighbors & friends.

Nearly 40,000 people were killed on U.S. roads last year. Every loss is preventable when we design for safe speeds. This World Day of Remembrance, we commit to prioritize Safety over Speed to save lives.
