Retro is in, even in the ocean. The orcas are once again wearing salmon hats

Orcas have begun wearing salmon hats again – and we may soon know why
About 40 years ago, researchers noticed a population of orcas had begun swimming around with dead fish on their heads, and now the craze is back

Our study found that nearly 40% (!) of 12-21 yo females are iron deficient.

But did you know that in addition to many physical symptoms, iron deficiency is associated with multiple mental health issues?

My favourite fact about Iceland is that we have many, many crime writers but only one forensic pathologist, and he was so busy answering all of their questions that he decided to have a small seminar for writers to get some peace.

It immediately sold out so he had another one that also sold out.

We’ve all been under a lot of stress lately.

But did you know that stress affects blood coagulation?

If you didn’t before prepare to now with another #hemesky #skeetorial

We must be organized and clear in our communication of the science of vaccines, tailored to those who have inherent concerns or are swayed by mis/dis information.

All of us, but especially our kids are counting on us.

PSA: If your toddler is iron deficient and drinking more than 24 ounces of milk a day, the milk is the problem.

And if your toddler is drinking significantly more than 24 ounces and hasn’t had labs done, you can assume they’re likely deficient.

A sobering empirical piece in JAMA.

Homicide has long been THE LEADING CAUSE of maternal/peripartum death.

Here they show:
* restrictions on divorce
* restrictions on abortion…
both correlate with pregnancy homicide (albeit differently, depending on age/race) 🛟🩺

PSA for those on iron supplements

🩸don’t take more frequently than daily (every other day likely best)
🩸don’t take w/ milk, dairy, tea, coffee (these inhibit absorption)
🩸vitamin C *may* increase absorption
🩸best to take on empty stomach if you can tolerate

Another #MedSky #Skeetorial

Iron deficiency is relatively frequent and seen by all types of physicians.

For years, iron supplements were given multiple times a day.

Now we know that should never happen.

So why the change?
