It is very much worth a read/re-read. There's a serious way in which seeing that get published by NYT in that season felt like a real win (there is a funny side as well, if you know that Mariame famously doesn't like to write, even though she has released several more amazing books since then).

Cis-heteronormativity has never been the default for humanity. It has always been maintained through violence and power structures.
Pride is a reminder that the fullness of humanity cannot be extinguished no matter how hard oppressors try.

Maundy Thursday is a reminder that the same Jesus that lowered himself to wash feet, is the same Jesus invoked to celebrate the "deportation" of innocence to death camps.
It's ironic that so many Christians will celebrate the resurrection of life this weekend while having worshipped death all week
