Sean Grayson, the officer who murdered Sonya Massey, has been convicted of second-degree murder.

While the conviction is a step in the right direction, America still has a long way to go in addressing mental health emergencies and police accountability.

Once again, the main day of Tea Party protests had about 300,000 nationwide, but saw endless coverage.

The No Kings protests had about 7,000,000 nationwide, and many media outlets reacted with a yawn.

No Kings was nearly 25x as big as the Tea Party but the Tea Party got 25x the attention.
Ask yourself this: How would the New York Times have covered the protests if it had been seven million MAGA supporters flooding the streets? We don’t even have to guess: We know how they and other mainstream outlets covered the Tea Party protests during Obama’s first term.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.
Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?

Recently, there has been a lot of talk about partisanship and division with comparisons to the 1850s and 60s. My most recent piece goes into that history through the lens of the election of 1860. 🧵

1/ I am uncertain whether this article will achieve its intended outcome. After the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk, it feels as though words have lost their power. Nonetheless, silence is not an option. 🧵

The people who say we talk too much about slavery are the same ones who insist that we need public monuments and statues of men who are famous solely for waging a war of treason in defense of slavery.

Statues that were created explicitly to deny any sense of "hope and progress" after the Civil War.
White House official Lindsey Halligan: "While slavery is obviously a horrible aspect of our nation's history, you can't really talk about slavery honestly unless you also talk about hope and progress ... we need to stop focusing so much on the lack of progress."

BIG WIN: A court ordered the Trump Education Department to reinstate the civil rights workers they fired.

I taught kids with disabilities––the kind of students helped by these workers. Every child deserves to be treated fairly.

I’m staying in this fight for our kids.

Republicans are at it again with their gerrymandering nonsense.
Texas Republicans are redrawing districts to eliminate 5 Democratic seats. It’s a blatant power grab—and it's completely legal.
A thread 🧵

This isn't just about Texas.

cannot be emphasized enough: Colin Wright (whose publications were retracted because of fraud on the part of his co-author, and who boasted about not learning how to use research tools he was told to master) did not in any meaningful sense try to get a tenure-track job
Well, it's Colin Wright. Who put himself on the academic job market for exactly one year. He has spent the following five years trying to get great far-right mileage out of that one year's worth of application work. I see there's no end to it; he's now officially trying for racial discrimination. 1/
This guy *admits* he applied for "countless" tenure-track positions and ultimately had to leave academia because nobody would hire him. He claims, though, that Ivy League Cornell filled their position with a Black person who couldn't possibly be more qualified than him.
