DHSC published its impact statement for the 10 Year Health Plan this week (yes, that is 6 months after it published the plan)

It's more measured and clear-eyed than the original document and quite a contrast to some of the effusive optimism in the plan

Some of the things that caught my eye 👇

How do you measure the domestic mental load? 🧐

And how does your experience stack up against our research of 3,000 US parents?

I created a quiz using the same approach we use in peer-reviewed sociological research so you can find out!

Hope this sparks some conversations 💡

Missing from the coverage of redundancies at Edinburgh: this was done in such a haphazard, uncoordinated way, there are now core teams who have gone from 5 people to 1 with no change in workload or pressure and huge loss in knowledge of institutional process. www.heraldscotland.com/news/2576321...
Hundreds of staff leave Edinburgh University amid cuts drive
According to the university, 345 of these departures were the result of a targeted voluntary severance (VS) scheme run by the institution in 2025.

I'm looking forward to returning to Glasgow to deliver the 2nd Annual Racial Justice Lecture following Patricia Hill Collins inaugural lecture last year. It’s great that @glasgow.ac.uk is open to discussions of racial justice when in the US it has become a taboo topic.

"The building was designed by George Gilbert Scott as an elaborate, centuries long prank, with the explicit intention to confuse everyone who ever needed to find a room within the building."
While the main university buildings were designed by George Gilbert Scott and were built in the 1860s, this distinctive spire was only added by his son, John Oldrid Scott, in the 1890s.

Strathclyde seeks 'to save £35m over the next two years.'

'Details of which jobs may be at risk have not been made public by the university.

It is thought they could include roles at Strathclyde Business School and the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland.' Industrial policy anyone?

Our analysis of @careopinion.org.uk data showed how much patients have internalised these inaccurate campaigns about inappropriate use of A&E. I really believe that this nonsense, and war metaphors, harm patient experience in already miserable situations.
Completely agree with Ben here. The NHS press release is even weirder, describing the NHS as "under siege" from these minor conditions

Shows a complete unwillingness in the NHS to engage with the actual reasons for long A&E waiting times

What a predictable mess. Boris used Brexit to pass a law that allows Westminster to violate terms of devolution. Starmer’s government either doesn’t know or doesn’t care that using it to spend money on a devolved area will cause a big fight. And they start the fight over stuff like bus shelters.

As set out in this thread, the causes of the court backlog are chronic lack of funding and absurd inefficiency.

The government has made no proposals to address either. Their answer is to remove juries.

Rather than fix the leaking roof, their solution is to burn the house down.
Here is a list of reasons why some of my hearings and trials this year have been delayed and kicked off into the long grass, stuck in our record court backlog. Serious allegations which will now be tried *years* after the event. 🧵👇
