I feel like most anti-piracy talk is rooted in willful ignorance of the actual economic conditions rn, too. People don't have disposable income - they're not going to buy a book or a BluRay without some guarantee they're getting their money's worth. Word of mouth from pirates can give them that.
All of the dumbass dipshits who say this never actually have anything like hard evidence or proof that piracy impacts livelihoods, no numbers, no charts or graphs, they have nothing except endless vibes-based scolding and an unearned sense of their own rightness

Honestly, I think one of the major problems with the American left is that we tend to get locked into single-front campaigns that never generalize beyond one issue. Palestine; Roe; BLM; Bernie. We hyperfocus on one thing at a time and we get waited out every time.
