looks like I'm writing a book.
title to be something along the lines of "Critical Approaches to Human Cognition"
coming to a well known academic press sometime in the near future.

hopefully not too long.
I hear writing is pretty easy. 😭

This is exactly why things like ethics, unconscious bias and general confronting of people’s racism in science IS necessary and will always be necessary.
Global north researchers running a global south field site rife with medically unethical and statistically abysmal research practices, all to manufacture support for their pet theory and undermine global vaccine access & health security…the research colonialism is genuinely staggering.
is the “”gold standard science”” in the room with us right now?

the mind sometimes need to know about bird poop.
People who aspire to be academics: I wish to live a life of the mind

Actual academics:
I have a weird question for the #bird people on here. Do you think someone could tell that a book was pooped on specifically by a sparrowhawk (or perhaps hawks generally) just from the feces? I'm looking at a 16th c. case where witnesses claim books were pooped on specifically by sparrowhawks!

LISTEN! The number of students of color I informally advise on publishing, fellowship applications, dissertations, job applications, fly outs, etc. could fill an auditorium. And the vast majority do not attend the institution that provides me with a W-2.
This is part of the uncompensated labor that faculty of color are constantly engaged in. & then folks ask us why we're not publishing more. But I've been advising YOUR student behind your back because you've offered them nothing useful besides line edits. And she doesn't even go here!

folks seem to be adding a lot of AI addendums. names of majors, schools, all getting "AI" added. Has anyone gone ahead and changed at the university level? Like "Texas A&M" but for Artificial Intelligence instead of agriculture. 😂

maybe I'm misreading the email, but I think they just floated the idea of using AI in the tenure & promotion process.

People are desperately drawn to phrenology. You could set your clock by the regularity at which those stupid papers come out and are debunked. Can't people FINALLY know better?
No, the urge to judge people by characteristics they can't control is too strong...

It was one thing when this was about intellectual ephemera. I ver it. Mock us all day long. We do, in fact, make up words. But seeing people throw “gatekeeping” charges at practical craftspeople feels so bleak.
I've noticed a marked increase in anti-intellectualism in general but specifically troublingly against blue-collar workers, craftsmen and tradesmen. I can't tell you how many times I've seen furious accusations of "gatekeeping" against like, a plumber talking about plumbing

MusicNet (1995) was an early "online" music store that came on a CD with music samples. You could preview tracks, add items to your shopping list, and then call a phone number to order with your credit card.
