title to be something along the lines of "Critical Approaches to Human Cognition"
coming to a well known academic press sometime in the near future.

hopefully not too long.
I hear writing is pretty easy. 😭

People are desperately drawn to phrenology. You could set your clock by the regularity at which those stupid papers come out and are debunked. Can't people FINALLY know better?
No, the urge to judge people by characteristics they can't control is too strong...

It was one thing when this was about intellectual ephemera. I ver it. Mock us all day long. We do, in fact, make up words. But seeing people throw “gatekeeping” charges at practical craftspeople feels so bleak.
I've noticed a marked increase in anti-intellectualism in general but specifically troublingly against blue-collar workers, craftsmen and tradesmen. I can't tell you how many times I've seen furious accusations of "gatekeeping" against like, a plumber talking about plumbing

MusicNet (1995) was an early "online" music store that came on a CD with music samples. You could preview tracks, add items to your shopping list, and then call a phone number to order with your credit card.

Watch while it's still available. The people in this doc are roughly my parents age. Very much still around. Very much all in living memory.

I actually kind of like these "100 men vs a gorilla" type things. Yes there is a lot of comedy and ridiculousness. But also people are actually trying to think through a problem. How it's defined (do we get weapons?), and what might happen.

If you think this can’t happen, remember that of the 125,000 Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII for years without charge or trial, two-thirds were U.S. citizens. Including me.

Listen, I’ve been all about mocking them instead but it does not endear you to the educated liberal folks, for sure. A lot of pearl clutching. Also, they’re not GOOD at mocking, maybe best they don’t try. I know the whole “satire didn’t stop WWII” bit but I think some punching up can pierce the veil
Pointing out hypocrisy is catnip to educated liberals and I say that as one of the “but someone is wrong on the internet” people myself. So what is to be done?

For rude people (yt/cis/m) like me, one upping their conspiracies reductio ad absurdum sometimes makes them ashamed. Treat them as a joke.
