I love to go a wandering…
open.substack.com/pub/martinku... Don’t just pass this first-person reporting by because that’s “yesterday’s news.” The goons might be leaving Minneapolis but headed to your city next. DHS bought a warehouse for human beings in a town about 12 miles from where I live.
‘No one is coming to save us’
ICE broke its teeth on Minneapolis, where the people – like Ukrainians – realize that resistance can’t be outsourced

It’s astonishing that someone with the resources that Bezos has couldn’t have brought together a management team that could successfully manage The Washington Post. It’s as if he intended to run it into the ground.
BTW surely at this point we’ve gotten past the notion that “citizen journalists” will pick up the slack for eviscerated newsrooms. There’s some excellent work being published on Substack et al., but it’s no substitute for the work of a professional newsgathering operation with the proper support.

Catherine O'Hara was a comedic genius. Timing, physicality, wit. She had it all. We love this audition piece from Waiting for Guffman:

Residents in Minneapolis are standing together to stop a despot who rivals Russia’s. They know Trump will not change. We must link arms with them if we want to defend freedom in America. The time is now.

A US government intent on ruling by terror and pursuing a broad policy of state violence poses a daunting new reality for a country lulled by the absence of autocracy throughout most of its history. Daunting—but not unconquerable if we summon our inner Ukrainian and commit together to the struggle.

I’m getting over a bad bout of the flu. I have T1 diabetes and a compromised immune system. I was vaxxed, but we all know it’s bad out there. This is my 2nd dance w/the flu this season. Take my advice: Mask up. If you haven’t gotten the vaxx, get it. It could make it easier if you do catch it. 😷✌🏼

In times like these, writer @martinkuz.bsky.social urges Americans to summon their “inner Ukrainian,” to resist tyranny and to remember community. A great read.

Today I almost used the phrase “Hope is not a strategy” in my writing. I try so hard not to be cynical but it’s hard these days. Then I saw this. Glad I didn’t use that adage. I’m going to stay hopeful.

I'm really hoping Zelensky shows up in Washington tomorrow just to tell the president to his face that he has no intention at all of signing any agreement to share Ukraine's mineral wealth. I trust Zelensky knows that the president is a bad-faith actor, not deserving of any trust whatsoever.
