It's pretty grim looking at the world right now, which has gotten me thinking about how or why we ignore or deny aspects of reality that are painful. A recent blog with some reflections. headfixers.wordpress.com/2025/07/20/h... headfixers.wordpress.com/2025/07/20/h...
How We Ignore the Unthinkable: The Psychology of Denial in Danger and Injustice
We are capable of extraordinary rational thought, impactful decisions, and collective agency, but we are equally capable of irrational denial, especially when facing truths that are threatening, de…

Hi, I’m wondering if anyone has a simple form that a parent can use to track/observe their child’s behaviour at home? I’m thinking the kind of form used in schools to observe target behaviour. The purpose is to inform any possible future assessment. TIA ☺️

The world needs more Mariann Edgar Buddes 💥
Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives ... and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals"

There’s something really special being witness to young teenage girls championing their girl friends as they bravely step forward to perform a solo piece. I was lucky to see this, girls supporting girls, this evening at my daughters’ school Christmas carol service ✨🎄✨ #ActionsNotWords

These losers do this because their only shot at companionship is a hostage situation, so they spend all day harassing people into thinking a woman’s self worth should resemble their own.

If they tried being kind and not approaching every relationship as a transaction, they would be much happier

at some point we're going to need to accept that the human brain was not meant to be aware of every possible bad and terrifying thing immediately via a little computer you keep in your pocket and that actively taking breaks is vital and not apathetic

Truly feeling more hopeful after this serendipitous “mistake” Never forget that there are far, far more good & kind people on Earth. ❤️ #FloridaDave #SpeirGorm 💚
My mistake spawned several very funny #FloridaDave threads but this one really is glorious. The warmth and wit and the welcome takes me right back to the good old days on the Other Place. And it’s abundantly clear I could not have randomly tagged a nicer guy. #GE24

Immigration was top priority for just 6% of voters

6%

We have always been a nation of emigrants. We still are.

The far right's call of 'Ireland is full' has landed with only the most potato-brained nationalists

And not a single right winger won a seat

Rejection sensitivity is central to ADHD, autism, and cPTSD.

Mental health services rarely understand rejection sensitivity, which is why people in all three diagnostic categories are so often told there is something wrong with their personality.

There isn’t.

This experience is one I have heard multiple times in my therapy room. Connections keep us alive & they most certainly do not need to be with humans. 🐈🐕🐴
Remembering the time a severe relapse was halted by my thought that I couldn't go to rehab because I had no one who could take care of my cat.

This little animal has literally saved my life.

I have huge admiration for my clients who consistently turn up to do this tricky work with me. ✨
In trauma recovery we're physically rerouting neural pathways that've been heavily reinforced for years-- literally reshaping our brain. It's painful because our brain, like any system w/ physical infrastructure, resists change-- until it doesn't.

Think consistency & grace.

Being able to recognise & tolerate joy are critical elements in healing. Joy & Values are central to the work I do with my clients.
We didn't survive this long or this much pain in order to settle for a "meh" life or relationship.

I will die on the hill of: trauma recovery that doesn't help us realistically create & enjoy a life we value is incomplete.

Carefully, skilfully building a sense of relational safety back into a person’s life so they can feel accompanied in their most frightening moments is often disparaged by proponents of the medical model. But to me this is the definition of “care”.

Every woman I know particularly of an older age (I'm ancient ) has a story on the scale of physical, mental, or sexual abuse in their lifetime from inappropriate comments to non consensual touch , coercion, and yes rape , rape , that they didn't report.
And still here we are .

A suggestion: a revival of the #edchatie one hour discussion, once every fortnight, on matters of interest in Irish education. New proposer and host every time.
