the divide in the Dem party is those who are pro-israel and those who aren't. glad to say I voted for my new rep yesterday who is solidly anti (she won!).
VA Gov. Spanberger (moderate, was in CIA) and NYC Mayor Mamdani (left, is in DSA) both taking steps to block local law enforcement from helping ICE as it violently violates people's rights is a good example of how the relevant divide in the Dem coalition isn't center-left, it's fight-don't fight.

how did Epstein get arrested the 2nd time? at whose initiative? this tells us something important.

In the late 1990s, Peter Thiel read a strange book called "The Sovereign Individual: How To Survive and Thrive During the Collapse of the Welfare State."

It predicted the decline of nations and the rise of a "cognitive elite" empowered by a new digital currency.

And now...(coming August 2026)

This is right. And it's not a coincidence that Epstein enters this scene with Iran-Contra, the scandal that helped build the shadow global networks that would ultimately erode and replace democratic institutions

Basically what Bannon and others recognized was that status anxiety over the changing gender norms was a way of selling the elite grievances of billionaires back to the masses as their own fear of someone else's freedom

divested themselves of responsibility? please. you fuckers are the reason Trump is in power. Thiel, Musk the others.
My writing today in the @sfstandard.com: Too many Silicon Valley leaders have divested themselves of the responsibility to speak out against the Trump administration.

We can’t shrink away and hope the crisis fades.

It’s time for all of us in tech to do and say more.

some people hate (not saying this is Michael) that One Battle After Another is deeply critical of the narcissism and naivety of the left of that period. the message I take from the film is grow the fuck up and stop using left-wing politics and movements as self aggrandizing projects.
People mostly say "Americans live in different realities" to talk about politics but it is blaring in my head reading the positive reviews of One Battle After Another

Conservatives buying/smothering struggling legacy media platforms is a bit like the Grinch thinking the holiday spirit is just Christmas trees and decorations. Media is a function of all of us, we don’t “need” the Washington Post or CBS News. It’ll find a way.

"ICE will leave Minnesota if you hand over your voter rolls" tells you everything you need to know.

This was never about immigration or fraud. It was always about rigging elections.

it demonstrates that our so-called intellectual, political, and business classes are cowards and grifters. Our elites (or whatever) are (nearly) to a person self-interested careerists and shitheads who will willingly compromise on core American values (due process) for status and money.
this is a fake problem. no one is saying this to regular, offline people who are coming around. they’re saying it to people who are engaged in professional political analysis who committed professional malpractice by scolding people who saw what was coming.

no, those people shouldn’t get a break.
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?

it's the corruption, stupid. Dems? corrupt. Republicans? corrupt.
One thing I'll never understand, even assuming extreme ignorance among low-info voters, is millions of people voting for a return of the President constantly causing crises.

People really decided, "I don't mind if things are worse so long as I'm entertained by this guy burning everything down?"
We now have a full-blown European-American crisis, and for no reason that the president is able to articulate

Citizens United was one of the first things I talked about on the campaign trail. It was the reason I ran for office.

Somali Minnesotans are resilient.

We will not let Trump or ICE intimidate us. Our neighbors have our back.

While ICE will eventually leave our beautiful city, we will be here continuing to love and support one another.

When you succumb to the cynicism, you are helping Trump. He wants you to think that all is lost, that he is all powerful, and that there is nothing we can do.

The fight for democracy is hard, but it is worth having. We have shown we can stand tall. We have shown we can win.
Many of you have become drama-addicted doomers, and you seem to think it's important for the rest of us to join you.

Yes, things are bad. But change is within our power. Grow up. Act like sober, responsible adults in a democracy instead of cynical, all-is-lost teenagers.

Now get off my lawn.

Coming out swinging against ICE, *obviously* becoming the president's personal goons, might lose votes from white people who can't see past "back the blue." Yep - we have a terrified electorate.

People crave agency. Show some spine, run on values. Give people a sense of control that way!
