Passing on one’s genes seems to be a thing today, so I’ll chime in as I’ve been thinking about Dawkins’ whole bit recently & it bugs me that while it may be factual, it’s only one slice of empirical evidence & is hugely reductive to conclude it’s the only driver for how we lead our actual lives…

Good read and very helpful to have feelings like the ones described so well articulated. We all have to find a way of navigating the world as we find it, so there’s no right or wrong necessarily, but for my part I don’t think twice about loving disco just because yer man’s into YMCA or whatever…
very grateful to The Quietus for publishing this essay- on everyday fascism and the promise and problem of “beauty” as an inadequate but therapeutic response to the ugliness of the present - plus there are some thoughts on disco and Patricia Highsmith- this felt like a risk but I’m glad it’s out

I hate talking about world events. I try to keep my politics local. Like, my dream is to be a fucking small-time disco DJ for god’s sake. Ideally I shouldn’t be writing about this stuff at all, but I won’t ever feel right in this world until Trump, Putin & Netanyahu are on trial for war crimes
