My second dissertation chapter is now published in PLOS Genetics! A really fun study in which we examine hybridization dynamics across space and time between monkeyflowers Mimulus guttatus and Mimulus nasutus in the Columbia River Gorge. @plos.org journals.plos.org/plosgenetics...
Fluctuating reproductive isolation and stable ancestry structure in a fine-scaled mosaic of hybridizing Mimulus monkeyflowers
Author summary Hybridization between species can create genetic novelty and promote adaptation, but can also erode species barriers and dilute genetic diversity. Climatic variation likely impacts the ...

I am one of the impacted NSF postdoc research fellows. My funds remain frozen. I rely on these funds as my salary and payment to aid in my research efforts. I am currently without the funds I use to pay my bills, health insurance, etc. and to move my research forward. #NSF #postdoc
Exclusive: NSF this week began to search through billions of dollars of grants the agency has already awarded for anything touching on topics that President Donald Trump has criticized. And NSF has blocked grantees and trainees from accessing funds while the review is underway. scim.ag/3El0NZh

New paper alert! My first dissertation paper recently went online at the Journal of Evolutionary Biology! We investigated patterns of postmating isolation and divergence in an understudied group of monkeyflowers (Mimulus section Eunanus). Here’s the link: doi.org/10.1111/jeb....

When asked to write this Esquire piece, I was skeptical about why anyone should care what I've been up to. And if it can actually be called activism. Then I thought, two white guys shouting in a ditch is emblematic of something, I just don't know what. Photos by moi.

A Middle-Aged Man's Backyard Revolution

Went to a cool talk on dog (dawg?) genetics today by Dr. Leigh Anne Clark, a new faculty member at UGA. Most importantly, I learned about these adorable Bailey chairs, which help dogs with Megaesophagus disease keep their food down. www.baileychairs4dogs.com?lightbox=dat...

Went to one of my favorite secret natural spots in Athens yesterday, the Rock and Shoals granite outcrop. It was pretty dry and hot (being the end of summer) but here are a few cool plants I saw there earlier this year.
