Just came across a site that pirates scientific papers, and then puts them behind an adwall.

On one hand I support knowledge for everyone, on the other hand having an adwall feels a bit icky. I'm probably overthinking this stupid site that won't exist after soon enough

ok manual poll time:
in the "shorter games with worse graphics" meme do you interpret games' shortness and graphics' worseness as

A. instrumental
(i.e. necessary for achieving devs paid more to work less)
or
B. an end in and of itself?
(short/worse = desirable)

Watching the high end games industry fall apart got me wondering if games have gotten too big for their own good.

I can't answer that definitively but my two favorite games this year, The Alters and Absolum, are much smaller in budget and scope than the Assassin's Creeds of the world, so... maybe?

Activision passed up an enthusiastic Steven Spielberg, who had an entire pitch and was ready to go, for the Call of Duty movie so they could retain rights and control at Paramount

If that sounds gobsmackingly stupid consider this is the second time in row this mistake has been made. 🧵

I am not enjoying this week. Zero stars on WeekAdvisor.

Companies are giving billions to Nvidia for infrastructure that Nvidia proudly states is going to be outdated within 2 years

They're doing so without coming close to making that money back

A year 1 business student could spot the problem, can the CEOs of trillion $ companies?

Been considering "(Entertainment industry) is doing badly!"

Insert: Games, reading, movies. Podcasts, shows, YouTube, Tiktok.
Drinking, smoking, sex and rock n roll.
Travel, food, swimming, mountain climbing.
Etc.

Entertainment seems saturated, is boredom cured for those with money? 🤔

"Gaming" is currently in an odd spot, everyone can play Wordle, and more "core" games have their tradition of hitting and balling.

But trying to break a non traditional game into the "core" of more money and time commitment is hard. Animal Crossing/Stardew Valley managed, that's an exception.

Mammals have evolved into anteaters at least 12 times. That's twice as many times as we've counted sea creatures evolving into crabs (carcinisation).

I propose "myrmecoisation" for "evolve into ant eater" as Latin for anteater is myrmecophagus

Peak is a co-op game made in a month by a few people for a game jam and just past 5 million sales.
