Basic authoritarian stuff: the government revolves around protecting the President and punishing his enemies. Completely inconsistent with democratic norms, but will barely be a blip in the news in our new regime.

There's a real "it can't happen here" mentality that prevents a lot of Americans from having a clear-eyed view about the fragility of American democracy. Dictatorship is always something they see on the news about other countries, never something to happen at home

Trump's DOJ directs prosecutors to pursue criminal FARA charges only in cases involving conduct “similar to more traditional espionage by foreign govt actors.” Seems like it could weaken needed oversight on lobbying, but this has slipped dangerously into the media lately, IMO.

Some people are just too stupid for words! AID is good for the giver because a) It elevates suffering and hence creates good will b) It creates political stability and hence reduce international tensions and c) it creates revenue for businesses in the givers country. Lets saw the branch we sit on!

If you think Democrats are facing a massive communications problem, then Trump's gambit here looks smart & you may be envious because you're seeing the communications side. Most of my life was spent studying and working on these issues (German major, 20yr career combating authoritarian regimes globally), and it is mind-blowing that we are doing this. My understanding of this trajectory alternately brings despair and hope. 1/2
