I have this conversation with my military friends & family. It’s hard to detach from the ideas and values you’ve spent your life defending. To be told your version of America was an illusion at best, a lie at worst keeps you clinging to the patriotism that led you to join in the 1st place. I get it

So it turns out that airports in the US are deeply dependent on money from the federal govt and they basically can't exist without it. Socialism, man. It's where you least expect it, but you should expect it because private businesses don't fund shit. Taxpayers do.

My wife and I pay for life insurance even though we have never died. I pay for fire insurance even though my house has never burned down. That's not because we want to throw money at insurance companies. It's because THAT'S HOW INSURANCE WORKS.

Before ACA, many Americans couldn’t afford insurance
Alex Smith was a diabetic who got kicked off his Mom’s insurance at 26
He made 35k a year which was “too much” for Medicaid, but not nearly enough to cover insurance premiums
He had to ration his insulin & died a month after losing insurance

Insulin's High Cost Leads To Lethal Rationing
Alec Raeshawn Smith was 23 when diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and 26 when he died. He couldn't afford $1,300 per month for his insulin and other diabetes supplies, so he tried to stretch the doses.

Screwed. We’re getting screwed.
An agreement to agree to do a later vote is NOT an enforceable contract so what in the actual hell are Americans getting out of this deal??

This deal to reopen the government is fucking disgraceful.
Tens of millions will lose their healthcare. Trump will be emboldened.
This is exactly what’s wrong with Democratic Party leadership and why we need more people in Congress who will actually hold the line.

Bernie Sanders: "What this Senate is about to do is make a horrific situation even worse. So let's be clear what this vote is about. If this vote succeeds, over 20 million Americans are gonna see at least a doubling in their premiums in the ACA."

Mike Johnson won’t open the government until after Thanksgiving. The Republicunts want to move up the results of TN’s special election. We need to keep an eye and steady volunteering on TN. Johnson wants Matt Van Epps (R) sworn in and will only open it when Van Epps can be Grijalva’s cancelling vote

There’s a disturbing lack of outrage over ICE’s aggressive tackling and arrest of a non verbal autistic man in Chicago.
Just like the lack of outrage over Rodney Taylor, a disabled double amputee who’s been held in solitary for months.

Disabled People are Being Mistreated in ICE Detention Facilities
Why is no one talking about it? Where's the media? Where's the public outcry? Another example of the pervasive nature of ableism and how society views disabled people as expendable.
