@pighill.bsky.social
Archaeological illustrator & heritage graphic designer, Peter Lorimer.
Based in Lincolnshire. works everywhere.
Oddly commercial artists and illustrators are completely absent from this list, which makes me doubt its veracity as creative industries are taking a massive hit right now with potential clients turning to 'free' generative Ai image creators.

And as my years advance, I find the pull gets stronger.

I love all their stuff, but... I have to put a slight restriction on how much I listen i.e. not an album on repeat.
There's a weird almost nostalgic ennui-inducing aspect to their music, that can I find, affect me if I go too far down the rabbit hole. maybe it's just me?

Looks really good!
Notably the graphics / panel design looks particularly sharp!

...hmmm?
That strikes me as something only someone with a dinosaur to hide would write.

For obvious reasons, I like this a lot.

Thanks!
It's just absurd, their product is perfect, it's easy to use, and there's entirely nothing therin that could be improved by the addition of Ai.

Wow!
Not sure why, but that first photo took me straight back to growing up in Rural North East England in the early 80s everything looked exactly like this.

Seems to be initially on the side of the phone app, as an 'enhanced' kind of route planner tool, but I suspect it's the thin end of the wedge in terms of integration.

Given that Ordnance Survey is synonymous with some of the most trusted mapping in the world (and has been for a very long time) to gamble that reputation on the electric idiot lantern of Ai seems remarkably crass.
Recent threads on Ai and maps have been at least amusing...

I'll admit I may have been quite forthright in my response.

Can I ask anyone else who may be contacted by them, to make their feelings known as well.

As a lifetime user of Ordnance Survey mapping products for both work & pleasure, I frequently get asked (& am happy to) provide feedback.
Utterly dismayed however to open a questionnaire this morning asking me how receptive I'd be to OS integrating Ai into their services?!

Many years back we were tasked with creating some interpretation, addressing how the tower might have been integrated into the early medieval town defences.

Excuse the screen grab but the post that appeared in my timeline directly below your reply is I feel... serendipitous?

I'm starting to think the phrase
" Why is Andrew Windsor..."
could be succeeded by a gradually widening number of sentences.

Puzzled they questioned what she meant?
And it turned out a village in Devon they used as a plot point, for a location was same one their great Grandfather worked for a time as a gravedigger, and yes... their story featured the village churchyard funeral scene. They had no prior idea of this.

That is wild!
A friend many years ago dipped their toe into narrative fiction, by writing a short story, which upon finishing they shared with a few members of the family before they submitted it to be published. An aunt came back asking "Why are you dragging your great Granddad into this?"

wAIT.. WHAT?
Does the writer know you, or is this just a cosmic coincidence thing?
A colleague in a previous job, could hold up a vinyl LP that had her name in the title, but to be fair, her name was much more common combination than yours!

We're not a year into his presidency, and on top of 'everything' else they have going on. We've hit the "Throw a massive gladiatorial (UFC) charioteering (Indycar) spectacle" part of the reign!
Trump announces he is building a stadium for 100,000 people in front of the White House for the UFC fight on his birthday

Re: Seeking advice on Reddit.

Let's face it, given the user base, Reddit is a GREAT place to ask for technical or specialist advice on very niche and nerdy subject areas.

Downside being when you have to credit your helper, you find you are thanking *checks user name*... U/eroticHedgehog69

I've got an extreme and sudden yearning for an interactive display of these, where you can 'honk' them!

**Though for reasons of hygiene, I'd guess it would have to be 'press-numbered-button-to-play' that particular Lur.

Own experience, I've found if you have a relatively local independent computer store, give them a budget range and ask them to build one for you, I've found you often get much more robust and pokey machine for a lot less than you'd pay in Currys PC world.

urgh... Why does our brain do this to us?
And because it's OUR brain doing this OURSELVES, we really know what buttons to press to wring the maximum amount of unpleasantness out of it. :(
