I know the average person doesn't use or care about VR. But I believe the advent of spatial computing is the most substantial development in artistic expression since the arrival of motion pictures - and, before then, since the invention of perspective in paintings.

So i'm finally playing through the VR Medal of Honor, and while fun, some of the dialogue scenes seem to draaaag. Unlike a cut scene, I am "physically" stuck into the ground having to hear ppl talk. BUT, in Half Life Alyx, the Vortigaunt monologues are a delight... 🧵

In videogames the combination of all elements is what creates the right vibe.

Which is why I love seeing 'ambient' tracks of videogames on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyqV...

It isn't just the music. It's the crowd noises, it's the footsteps of NPCs, it is the *entirety* that creates the vibe

….! What a loss… his countless contributions, thorough support and dedication to maintaining deprecated tools on the vr/ambisonics front is an essential part of my workflow in that field.
Sad news for the audio community.
Really sorry to hear about the passing of Professor Angelo Farina. I've always very much enjoyed reading his work and it was through his work that I learnt how to do acoustic measurements when I was a PhD student.

Requiescat David Lynch. Along with Steve Albini, we've lost two of the brightest sonic sorcerers in less than a year.
A pair that was tuned to the senses like few other mortals.

We have this impoverished vocabulary to discuss art, so vlogger garbage takes hold out of the ill-equipped desire. It's the same problem in books, where everything—from settings to couplings to narrative structure— is "tropes." Another failure of public education.
