Ok fine, it’s only half written by a woman but it’s just too good to not include. One of my best reading experiences in years. Ethereal and gripping and thought-provoking and romantic and sad, all at once

This is not the best book in this amazing sci-fi series but it is the best place to start.

The series is that magical combo of thriller x love story (stories) x philosophical thought-provoker, all with a strong moral compass. Rare!

I don't understand why people keep sharing these studies like this is surprising, or inherently bad.

Do our brains work as hard when we use a calculator, as when we do mental math? Of course not, that's literally the entire point. Why has this been fine for every invention, until now?
“When participants used ChatGPT to draft essays, brain scans revealed a 47% drop in neural connectivity across regions associated with memory, language, & critical reasoning.

Their brains worked less, but they felt just as engaged—a kind of metacognitive mirage.”🧪

Teens today are not disengaged. The opposite. They see other information flows that are way less stilled.

The challenge for journalists: helping ensure those pathways are fair and factual
A survey by the News Literacy Project of US 13- to 18-year-olds shows 84% use negative words including "boring", "fake", or "biased" to describe news media (David Bauder/Associated Press)
